Are you bored of always staying in London whenever you visit England? Maybe it’s time you got out and explored more of the country, then. No problem; here are some of England’s best kept secrets that you need to know about.

Bristol

Do you still want to visit somewhere that has a big-city vibe? Then head to Bristol in Somerset. Once a large industrial city, Bristol is now considered one of the country’s hippest destinations. The city is known for many breakthroughs that happened here during the Industrial Revolution. But today, it is also getting a name for its fantastic alternative character. You’ll find lots of trendy cafes and bars to hang out in. There are also some excellent music venues that host some of the best up-and-coming bands. And, as this is the hometown of the street artist Banksy, you should keep an eye out for the various art murals dotted around the city! If you can’t find the murals yourself, you can always take a walking tour around them visitbristol.co.uk/things-to-do/banksy-walking-tour-p1354013

Blackpool

Fancy experiencing some of England’s famous coastline. Then you need to head to buzzy Blackpool! This popular seaside town still has many of its original Victorian features, such as the stunning ballroom in the Blackpool Tower. After watching the professional dancers in action, head up to the Blackpool Tower Eye for panoramic views of the sea and town. Take a stroll down the central pier to get to its big wheel and various candy stores. You’ll also be able to enjoy a hearty dish of fish and chips on the pier as well. Don’t forget to spend a day in the thrilling Blackpool Pleasure Beach theme park! You can find out about all its rides and attractions online blackpoolpleasurebeach.com

Cardiff

Have you always wanted to take a vacation to Wales? Then why not head to its capital city, Cardiff?! Spend some time strolling around Cardiff Bay where you will find numerous shops and restaurants. If you want to learn more about Wales’ history and culture, head to St. Fagan’s National History Museum. This excellent museum is open air and located in a beautiful parkland. You can walk around various buildings that have been recreated to show interiors from various periods of history. There is more history to discover at Castell Coch, an imitation High Gothic castle built by a wealthy Victorian businessman.

Hadrian’s Wall

The Roman emperor Hadrian built a wall near the Scottish border to keep the Scots out of England. The wall is still intact today, and you can visit various places of interest along it. One of the most popular is Vindolanda near the market town of Hexham. Here you will find a Roman army museum and can watch live archaeological digs taking place. If you are lucky, you may even be able to join in and help the archaeologists!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
