Shopaholic? Rein in Your Fashion Spending

March 22, 2017 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

If you love fashion, you probably find it hard to resist buying yourself something new now and then. Some people find themselves spending more than others, giving into the impulse when they spot something they love. There are so many excuses you can make to justify your purchases, from it being in the sale to an item being the last one in stock. But if you think you spend too much on your clothes, it’s time to start reining in your spending. There are several ways you can spend less on fashion and beauty and still treat yourself now and then.

Give Yourself a Budget

Setting a budget is always a good way to avoid spending too much. However, while you might already have a general budget, perhaps you haven’t set a specific amount for clothes. Instead, almost all of your disposable income goes on fashion. If you choose an amount you’re allowed to spend each month or year on clothes and accessories, you can spend less and save more. Or you can use what you don’t spend on clothes to buy yourself other things you want. Set an amount you want to allow yourself and either spend it throughout the month or have one shopping session each month.

Look for Ways to Save

There are plenty of ways to keep buying the things you want while making savings. You don’t have to completely cut back on the amount of clothes you buy. One thing you can do is shop is sales, but this can be dangerous. It could lead to you spending more and not less if you’re not careful. Coupons are a good choice too, helping you get discounts on your purchases. Find some online, like these ones for Kohl’s: http://www.couponsherpa.com/kohls/. Another way to save is to buy things second-hand. You can find some great buys online or in thrift shops.

Try Clothes Swaps

Do you have some things you don’t wear anymore? If you like to keep your wardrobe fresh, you might find that you stop wearing something after a few months. Instead of just growing your collection of clothes, consider swapping them instead. You could arrange a clothes swap with your friends or colleagues. Or you could look for local buy, sell and swap groups on Facebook. Read http://fashionjournal.com.au/fashion/features/unwritten-rules-facebook-buysell-group to find out how to make the most of these groups. If you don’t want to do a straightforward swap, sell your clothes first and use the money you make to buy new ones.

Avoid the Shops

Finally, if you don’t want to spend any money on fashion, simply avoid the shops. If you’re not looking around your favorite stores, you won’t be tempted to buy anything. It can be a bit harder to resist online shopping. You can try using a site blocker to block your favorite stores or remove your card from your accounts. If you have to type in your card details every time, it can deter you from making a purchase.
If you want to rein in your spending on clothes and accessories, you just need to have the willpower. You can use any method that works for you.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
