I’m going to be a Grandma

August 11, 2010 Rachel Ferrucci 6 Comments

We have many stages of life and I’m on to my next stage. I’m about to be a grandma any day!!! When my husband and I first found out we’re going to be grandparents, the excitement was overwhelming. I had pictured this moment from the day my daughter got married. I knew exactly what I would say, what I would do, and how I would handle it. YEAH RIGHT!!! The memory my daughter will have of me is… me swearing at her… can you believe it? Instead of jumping up and screaming and grabbing her to hug her. I said… “Are you  F*^$ing with me?” ARGGGG! Once it sunk in I started crying and then I finally hugged her. From that moment I was out of control- knowing I would spoil My Prince or Princess.

My other daughter was off at college and I couldn’t tell anyone because she had to be told first. She was due home in two weeks. How the heck was I going to keep this to myself for two weeks. It was the longest two weeks of my life. My husband begged my daughter to tell someone because he said I wouldn’t stop talking about it and he wanted to poke his eyes out. Don’t get me wrong, he was super excited- and wanted to go shop that night. I said no and we waited until the next day..lol

Finally the immediate family knew, this baby had aunts, uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents, and a great great grandfather. She wanted to keep it a secret until she was at least 12 weeks. I would find strangers and tell them…Guess What? I’m going to be a grandma!!!! They’d look at me like I was crazy and say that’s nice or sometimes I would get a congrats.

At 20 weeks we found out it was a boy… Whoot…Finally My Prince will come. I thought my husband was going to cry. He had two girls and he now gets his boy. Everyone was telling me not to go crazy with buying stuff but it was my husband I had to control. He tried buying a big bouncy ball thing…hellooooo – he can’t use that for another two years. So I settled for the Yankee Jersey, the golf clubs, football, sneakers, Pittsburg stuff, and tons of baby clothes!

I’m so excited that I’m going to be a Grandma!! Babies R Us watch out- Here I come!

From this moment I started planning the shower- which will be another post

Are you a grandma? What did you do when you found out?

Congratulations! Isn’t it crazy how you just want to shout it from the mountaintops and you feel so incredibly special knowing YOU WILL SOON BE A GRANDMA! It makes you wonder how all the other grandmas in the world act and seem like completely normal people when all you want to do is share the news, share the news, share the news! I’m with ya on it.

Oh, and I totally cried like a baby when my daughter and son-in-law shared the news!

    Again, congratulations!

Perhaps this might be a touch of a tangent but baby’s are wonderful and awesome. I never knew how wonderful infants were till I grew up and became a mum.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
