Home Jobs I Won’t Touch With A Ten Foot Pole!

There are certain jobs around the home that I’ll happily take care of myself- ok have The Sicilian do. I’m lucky to have a handy man who can handle most any job, but there are times when even we call in the experts and leave it to them. There are various reasons why you shouldn’t attempt jobs like this. Either, they are too unpleasant or any attempt might mean that you make matters worse. Here are some of the jobs that I recommend are always best left to the experts.

Unclogging The Toilet

It’s not fun, it’s not pleasant, and it’s not something that you want to take care of. Who know’s why the toilet has become clogged? All that matters is that things are no longer flushing. Now you’ve got a nasty problem with a smell that is starting to spread through the entire house. What do you do? To unclog a toilet, one of the things that you’ll need is a plunger. Luckily, a blocked toilet left to the professionals can be sorted in minutes. You don’t have to get your hands dirty, and you can spray a scented can around to get rid of the smell.

Deal With The Dodgy Drain

A similar issue is a blocked drain in either the shower, the sink or the bath. Usually, it’s the shower, and it’s often the case of hair dropping off your head, clogging up the drain. In fact, if you do have a clogged drain, there’s a good chance you’re going bald. I’m kidding, of course, it’s just natural hair loss that everyone experiences through the day without realizing it. After a couple of weeks, though, that hair will build up in the drain. Then you’ll have a pool of water around your feet while you shower. To deal with this issue, you’ll need to take the drain apart and reach down. Again, this isn’t fun. That’s why you should let the plumber handle it.

Bugs, Beasties And Vermin

Look I’m not a coward, and like any respectable homeowner, I can deal with the odd spider or bug because I have The Sicilian go on the hunt to kill. An infestation, on the other hand, is another matter. The truth is that you shouldn’t even bother trying. If you have a room crawling with bugs, ant traps aren’t going to cut it. You need an exterminator to fix the issue. Otherwise, you might as well call those bugs your new house guests. Animals are worse, and it is incredibly important you can rid of an animal that’s come to stay as quickly as possible. They can spread disease and can be dangerous in a home with children.

Muck In The Gutters

The Sicilian doesn’t mind cleaning out the gutters because it’s messy, but it does involve climbing a ladder. I hate to watch him up that high and not to mention how many times he has to move the ladder. Now that he hurt his back, this is not an option for us, and it’s not my idea of a good way to spend a Saturday morning. In fact, I don’t think anyone should be doing this if they haven’t been trained. It’s just too easy for the ladder to slip and you to fall. You don’t even want to think about the type of injuries you can get from a two story fall.

Are these the jobs you leave to the experts, or are there others that you hate more?

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
