Food Storage Clean-up Quest

November 23, 2010 Rachel Ferrucci 5 Comments

At holiday time, there’s so much to do; cook, clean, decorate, shop, and so much more. One thing I always do is Try to clean out my food storage cabinet and organize it. This is the one place in my house, no matter how hard I try, it looks like I threw every piece in and slammed the door shut. My family talks about this cabinet as if its the black plague. So here I am two days before Thanksgiving, behind as usual, trying to find time to clean out this cabinet. I need to make sure I have food storage containers that have lids, make sure I have enough for the 20,000 different foods to pack. So what do I do?????? I just opened the door, got afraid, threw the last piece in from the drain and slammed the door shut…of course I did warn everyone… DON’T OPEN THAT DOOR!

My daughter says I’m the perfect candidate for the “In The Middle Of The Night Commercials”. WHAT??? I am NOT!!! I make fun of those people, like who really keeps there cabinets like that! Then it sets in, OMG I’m a friggin late night commercial candidate. When the hell did that happen??!!!!

I’ve decided I will not let food storage containers take over my kitchen. I will conquer the lids and bottoms, They will be piled from largest to smallest and they will like it. In with the new and out with the old. I WILL throw them out and not save them because I may be able to use it when I go to the beach or I may use that perfectly shaped bread container. My life will not be over run by a microwave safe bowl with no cover.

I decided I would go to Target and find my mates! I grabbed the calvary (I’m gonna need help with this one). There’s sure to be the perfect containers and maybe in a set.
I had no idea this would be so difficult! How am i supposed to know which to get? There’s about 20,000 different sets. Glad, Rubbermaid, Lock-its, snap-its, pop its, you’ve got to be kidding me! I’m so confused!

I’m having such a hard time deciding, that my cousin shows me the pretty purple one…..it is my favorite color!! prince T got so bored, he said the hell with this and went to sleep.

We tried to figure out which would be the best fit and which were the best for the price. Who knew this could be such a task. It was finally time to go so I decided I better think about this a little more before making such a drastic decision. I guess this Thanksgiving I’ll have to add cleaning out the food storage cabinet to my to-do list!

What containers do you use? How do you keep your cabinet organized? HELP!

Happy Thanksgiving and may all your left-overs have a home!

LOL, sounds familiar. It took me awhile to get control over my pantry, and more than one trip to the store.

I had to decide what exactly would go in there and where. I purchased containers that fit my shelves and what was to go in them, as well as a wire space-saver so I could stack some items. Now, everything has a home and things are easier to get to, which makes keeping it neat easier, also.

The key for me was to do it, bit by bit, rather than in one shopping trip.

That being said, I have another storage cupboard that is in dire need of cleaning and reorganizing. It has become one of those open-at-your-own-risk places. I hope to clean it after Thanksgiving, and do a major re-org after Christmas.

    The fun never ends.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
