Fall Makeup Trends 2015

October 11, 2015 Rachel Ferrucci 5 Comments

I keep a close eye on NYFW to get a head start on what the newest makeup trends will be. Many times when looking at the models you don’t think you will be able to re-create it or you are not invited to galas where this amount of makeup is acceptable. There is always a time issue too, My “dressing room” is comprised of my bathroom mirror and vanity. Makeup is kept in my makeup bag and in a couple baskets which I rummage through looking for what I want.

This year designers and makeup artists took in account we want to re-create the look at home, or at least that’s what I am saying. We will be talking about bringing back the red and dark plum lips, flushed cheeks, and black liner that is versatile.

When going out on the town, I will always be in favor of the smokey eye look. It is my go-to style which is easy to do. You can make the smokey eye as natural or seductive as you like. makeup artist Pat McGrath from Diane von Furstenberg created a diffused look using just black and brown liner that she called a “smoky eye girls would do at home.”

A side note on Diane von Furstenberg at NYFW- she said, “Our girl wants to look elegant and dressed up but she doesn’t want to look too fussy or prim and proper.” LOVE HER! Finally a designer who gets us!

I liked the nude and pale color on lips but I am an 80’s child and I love the classic staple of red lips. From Cherry red to sultry plum, our lips will be noticed this fall!

Red Lips

marc jacobsLIP TIP: Apply foundation to your lips to create the perfect canvas. Line your lips and fill them with color. Don’t forget to blot and for that extra touch add a dab of gloss in the bottom center.

Cheeks naturally should have a flushed look, well at least that’s my opinion. My grandmother would pinch both cheeks quickly and make sure lipstick was on if there was a knock on the door or if she was running out to the store. Cheek pinching was something you learned early in Italian family because your aunt and uncles would always pinch them and say Com’è Bella. It wasn’t later in life that I learned the two were totally separate and my grandmother pinched her cheeks to get the blood to the top of the skin to give it color. This fall you will be seeing flushed cheeks with soft pinks. kate-spade

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
