Expecting Exercise: Keeping Fit During Pregnancy

July 10, 2017 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

When you’re pregnant, your body has to do a lot of work. It takes a lot of energy to grow another person so it can leave you feeling pretty tired. However, even though there are times when you can feel exhausted, many women are determined to keep fit during their pregnancy. They want to keep their body as healthy as possible for the life they’re growing and maybe try to feel a bit more ready for the main event when it arrives. You might worry about the right way to keep fit when you’re pregnant. Although you need to be a little more careful, keeping fit when you’re pregnant isn’t as hard as you might think.

Don’t Eat for Two

You’ve surely heard the phrase “eating for two.” It’s a great excuse to eat everything in sight when you’re expecting, especially when you have major cravings. However, it’s not entirely accurate. While you do need to increase your calorie intake slightly, you don’t need to eat enough for two adults. In fact, you only really need a couple of hundred more calories each day. That’s only another light meal or snack on top of what you normally get. If you want to avoid putting too much weight on, make sure you’re not constantly eating.

Keep Up the Exercise

Exercising while you’re pregnant is perfectly acceptable. In fact, it’s encouraged to help you stay fit and healthy. Many women worry about whether they should stop doing their usual exercise routine when they’re pregnant. However, if you do regular workouts, there’s no need to stop completely. Some doctors recommend taking it down a notch, and it’s very important to take note of your comfort level. But you might have seen women who are top athletes or fitness gurus exercising right into their third trimester. There’s no need to stop unless your doctor tells you to or your workouts are making you uncomfortable.

It’s Not Too Late to Start Working Out

If you’re not much of an exerciser, don’t worry. You’re not alone. The majority of people don’t exercise regularly. But now you’re pregnant, it can feel like a bit of a wake-up call and make you want to start working out more often. If you don’t usually exercise regularly, you should avoid jumping into anything too strenuous while pregnant. However, you can start with gentle exercise and slowly build up the pace a little. You can go for walks, try yoga, and there are several benefits of spinning while pregnant. If you choose to cycle, make sure you adjust the intensity of your workout to suit you.

Exercise with Other Pregnant Women

There are lots of choices out there if you’re looking for an exercise class just for pregnant women. These can have a number of benefits. Firstly, you can share your experiences with other pregnant women. Secondly, your instructor should know any precautions and special needs you might need to consider. You can also feel like you have more of a safe space away from people who might judge you for exercising while pregnant.

Being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t keep fit. You can find a comfortable way to exercise to stay healthy.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
