Easy Pencil Holder Craft for Father’s Day

May 21, 2012 Rachel Ferrucci 6 Comments

I have loved making crafts since I was little. I made crafts for every holiday, season, or when I was bored. In 1978 I made my grandfather a pencil holder. When he passed away, my mom gave it to me and I use it to this day. Keeping in tradition, I had my girls make their daddy a pencil holder for Father’s Day, which he still uses.

Over the years parents get many homemade gifts from the kids and let’s face it, although it warms our heart that they took the time to create this beautiful masterpiece, we usually have no idea what to do with it. You can’t throw it out because it was made with their little hands so these whatchamacallits get piled up in a draw or box.

With this simple yet practical handmade gift, you will be able to keep your favorite pens or pencils in a convenient location. Perfect for a desk or your work center.

Poppy’s Pencil Holder

Pencil holders are very easy to make and you only need a few items:

  • A small can (vegetable, tomato paste)
  • Glue
  •  Popsicle sticks
  • Stickers, markers, or paint

Glue the popsicle sticks all around can and let it dry over night.
Once it’s dry add stickers, paint, or leave plain. Make sure you date it with a permanent marker.

Daddy will love it and the kids will love seeing it on daddy’s desk! This is also a great craft for the kids to give their teacher.

If dad loves his tools and he’s not very organized, you can use a large can and create a tool holder to keep in the garage.

Great use of items to create something useful! I love it when items can be recycled.

How come my comments disappeared? Anyway, this is a nice one for kids to create their own ones.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
