Backpacking Around Europe

May 23, 2017 Rachel Ferrucci 1 Comment

Europe is such a varied and interesting continent it can be hard to choose which country to visit. Each of them has their own merits and you’re likely to have an amazing time wherever you go. But if you’re traveling a long way to get there, it would be a shame if you were only to experience one of the many great countries that there are there. A much better way of seeing the continent is to go backpacking across it, that way you can see everything that you want to while you’re there. Backpacking across an entire continent is going to be a lot different to any other traveling experience that you might have had in the past and there are a lot more things that you need to prepare. If you are considering a backpacking trip in Europe, make sure you have a look at our checklist to make sure that you have everything that you need.

Initial Planning

Preparing before you go will save you a lot of problems when you get there. The first thing that you need to do is plan an itinerary. That does not mean that you need to work out exactly what you are going to do every day, that would ruin the experience. But you should decide what the main things that you want to see while you’re out there, and the countries that you want to visit.

The next step is to work out a budget. Look at the general costs of things in the separate countries that you are going to. This can help you to decide how much you will need to spend each day. Make sure that you overestimate a little bit, it’s always better to have extra money than it is to run out while you’re over there. It’s also worth working out how exchange rates etc. work. Getting a prepaid travel card can help you to avoid any nasty ATM fees when you withdraw money. It’s also safer than carrying large amounts of cash, especially if you are going to have a different currency for all the countries you are going to.

The time of year that you travel will have a big impact on the price. It will be a lot cheaper to go in the winter season and Europe is a great place to visit all year round. You do need to be careful of the weather though because it’ll get cold out there.

Packing

Packing right is very important, if you don’t get everything in then you’ll struggle. If you are going to be camping, you’ll need to get the best quality tents, first seen on TentsAndCampGear.com, this is especially important if you are going to be over there in the winter.

When you are packing clothes, pack light. You won’t have space for much in your backpack so choose versatile items that you are going to be able to use a lot.

Things like toiletries can be bought out there once you arrive so make sure that you don’t take up too much space with these items.
If you follow these tips, you should have a successful backpacking trip through Europe.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
