6 Tips for Beauty, Sleep, and Smelling Nice

December 1, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

We all know the term “Beauty Rest” for sleeping, and we also know how amazing we look after a solid eight hours of sleep a night. But, you may not be prioritizing your sleep schedule the way you should be. Celebrities swear by getting enough shut-eye to stay on top of your beauty game, not to mention you feel great when you get enough z’s. And, as we all know, when you feel good, you look good. But, what’s the science behind it?

Knowledge is power when it comes to everything in life. So, it only makes sense that when you know about the science of sleep and its health benefits that extend to your appearance – you’ll be more inclined to make sure you’re curating the perfect nighttime routine – including your skincare routine. With the proper routine, you’ll easily get a minimum of eight hours (let’s aim for ten) to look and feel your best.

Sleep is the Great Restoration

Sleep is a time of restoration and cellular renewal. And, not just for your brain – for your body as well! When you miss out on the correct amount of sleep every night, your body doesn’t get a chance to renew all of the cells, leaving you looking tired, wrinkling, and saggy – never a good look! If you frequently wake up after not enough sleep with puffy and dark eyes, it’s from the blood pooling under your eye area, and let’s face it, there’s not enough firming cream in the world for the morning after not enough sleep. So make sure you’re giving your body time to reset, recharge and renew.

Skin Health Keeps You Looking Young

Another bonus of getting your beauty sleep? Some of the most apparent benefits of getting enough sleep are observed in your skin health. First of all, you’re going to be able to stave off fine lines and wrinkles with enough sleep. You’ll also enjoy healthier and firmer skin and nails. As you give your cells that time to rejuvenate during the night, you’re able to enjoy the signature of solid health with beautiful, glowing skin, hair, and nails.

“Bright-Eyed And Bushy-Tailed” = Beautiful

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, and if you’re getting enough sleep, your soul will undoubtedly shine. If you’re making sure that you log at least eight to nine hours of sleep a night will ensure that you wake up with bright peepers and without those pesky undereye circles or bags. When you have a bright and open set of eyes, you look more approachable and happier, which always translates to beautiful!

People Can Tell If You’re Happy

As you know, when you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re more prone to mood swings and a depressed attitude. If you’re making sure you get in your hours every night, your mood will be infinitely better than if you’re not. And, as mentioned earlier, when you feel good, you look good. Getting enough sleep also makes you more likely to partake in healthier lifestyle habits.

Healthier Habits, Healthier Body

Studies show you’ll also have a smaller waistline if you’re not running on little to no sleep. That’s right, people that do not get enough sleep every night are 33% more likely to become overweight or obese than their peers that are getting adequate sleep every night. So, while it’s true that all bodies are beautiful, it’s also true that you’re going to be overall healthier and feel better if you’re maintaining a healthy weight.

Smelling Good is Attractive, Too

When you’re saving time for sleep, depending on your lifestyle, you could end up saving some money as well! If you’re the type of person that goes out often and is spending money on drinks, or if you are always so exhausted from lack of sleep and day-to-day responsibilities that you order in food instead of cooking – getting enough sleep could benefit your wallet. So, instead of buying another pizza one week, you could treat yourself to the Celine Dion perfume you’ve wanted to pick up. What you choose to do with your saved money is up to you, but with the holidays around the corner, why not try to prioritize sleep to pad your Christmas budget!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
