After a long winter we welcome the warmth with open arms. With the warmer weather comes busy schedules. Planning vacations can add to the stress of trying to fit everything in. I also try to plan getaways with friends, some alone time with hubby, and of course something with the kids. When thinking about where to go, it slips my mind that Connecticut is a great vacation spot because I live here. I was invited to Saybrook Point Inn and Spa for a weekend and wondered how this gem wasn’t at the top of my list. Here are my 5 Reasons To Stay at Saybrook Point Inn and Spa.
Family, Friends, Couples
The Saybrook Point Inn and Spa can accommodate any kind of travel you are looking for but today I’m going to tell you how to make the most out of a couples weekend. If you live in the northeast, it’s just a drive away so the money you would have spent on plane tickets you can use toward…..what else….shopping!
Three Stories
Three Stories, a newly renovated Italianate home feels more like home without the stress of cleaning and cooking. Children are not allowed here, it’s just days and nights of peaceful bliss. Mrs Pratz, who I wanted to kidnap, makes you feel like you’re visiting your favorite aunt who dotes over you. She welcomes you and makes sure you know where everything is you’ll need on top of giving you some history about the family and Saybrook Inn.
Our room was amazing (only 8 total) and it had me thinking how when I returned home I would be redecorating my own bedroom! We got to enjoy the fresh muffins and biscotti with our morning coffee and at night we grabbed a bottle of wine or two and hung in the billiards room downstairs.
Sanno Spa
Create your pampering package and spend hours or the day at Sanno Spa. We decided to start with a Swedish massage that relaxed every knot and rejuvenated me, after spending some time in the relaxation room with friends. We might have talked more than we should have while sipping our mimosas but it didn’t stop us from relaxing. After the massage we all headed to the indoor pool, the jacuzzi, and a brief minute in the steam room. The Sanno Spa team made us feel like we were top priority every step of the way.
Fresh Salt
Enjoy the beautiful views no matter where you sit at Fresh Salt. The menu is simple but doesn’t skimp on quality. You’ll find your favorite seafood dishes made with the chef’s twist and no plate will go unlicked. Well, let’s just say you’ll want to lick it but please refrain. If you’re staying at Three Stories your breakfast is included and you can choose lunch, dinner, or the lounge menu. If you’re here on Sunday don’t miss their amazing brunch. My favorite was the shrimp and of the dessert!
If you are one of those people who feels like no place is as clean as home, you will be surprised at how clean Saybrook Point Inn and Spa is. Clean is not a subject I normally write about but this was different. As we walked through the main inn on a mini tour, I spotted a petite woman who looked like she could have been my grandmother, carrying a vase about half her size. She asked if someone could have this vase washed because it was a bit dusty. We went on our way, finding out this little woman was Mrs Tagliatela, the original owner of Saybrook Point Inn and Spa. Throughout the weekend you would see Mrs T in various places doing a white glove test minus the glove. At one point she was fixing flowers and I had to go over and meet her. She was the kindest woman you could meet and so happy to have us there as guests. As a matter of fact, so many of the people who work there have been “with the family” for years. You won’t find a dusty window sill, picture, or anything piled in a corner.
Saybrook Point Inn and Spa is a great place to go for the a week, the weekend, or if you like to go day-tripping! Walk in and feel like you’re visiting family. I warn you, you won’t want to leave!
