Wilton Parrot Rescue (WPR) is a small home-based rescue in Wilton, Connecticut, USA.
Their goal is to find permanent loving homes for surrendered and rescued companion parrots.
About WPR
Wilton Parrot Rescue was founded in January 2010 and is an entirely volunteer-run and donation-dependant organization. We work with a limited number of birds at a time to ensure individualized attention for each bird, which we believe results in greater adoption success. In our first three years, we have successfully placed and found forever homes for more than 70 parrots.
Wilton Parrot Rescue maintains a philosophy that no parrot should be kept as a pet. We feel this holds especially true for cockatoos which account for approximately 75% of the surrender requests WPR receives. We are concerned about their well-being in captivity as well as their threatened and often endangered status in the wild – predominantly due to habitat loss and the international pet trade.
Unfortunately our parrots have been raised as companion animals and would not survive in the wild. We therefore do not have a rehabilitation and release program. We strive to provide these long-lived, often demanding and very intelligent animals the best homes possible.
Wilton Parrot Rescue is primarily committed to our parrots in the rescue and the continued effort to educate our potential adopters and the general public. Our volunteer program offers a unique ‘hands-on educational experience’ which many find invaluable.
