Yeah, I had blue hair on my wedding day.
I also have eight children, seven from my first marriage. My husband is eight years my junior. We met on Tinder (true story!) I have two dads whom I love dearly, my dad and his husband. I’m left handed, love black licorice and did I mention that I’m also a grandma? I’m admittedly not your average errrr…bride. And that’s okay. Every bride is different, has different tastes and will want her day to be reflective of her unique tastes. These days, it easy to make your special day as unique as you are, from having two dads and a dinosaur bone groom’s ring, to invitations and hair color!
I’m in love
…with the 1920’s era. I am pretty sure I was born in the wrong time period because I find myself obsessed with movies like The Great Gatsby, prefer speak easy type lounges to boring old bars and don’t get me started on the fashion. So naturally, when I was planning my wedding, I wanted to incorporate styles from the Proabition era.
Finding “The One”
It took some time when it came to deciding on invitations. I perused pages and pages of beautiful invitations. My personal tastes narrowed things down a bit, but when there are hundreds of options, it is still easy to become overwhelmed. So I used the filtering option at Wedding Paper Divas to speed up the process a bit and allow me to focus on my particular theme. I found the perfect style: classy, art deco, very 1920’s glam. My heart felt like it would burst right through my chest!
Meeting the family
This is usually a terrifying task. However, finding items to go with the invitations was so much easier than I thought it would be. They had everything from envelope liners, response cards and thank you cards, to table numbers and napkins, all in the same style. It’s called a “suite.” What a relief! Who has time to try and hunt for coordinating paper goods when your to do list is already a mile long? Not this girl. The whole process was painless and (dare I say) FUN.
The big day
It came so fast I was in disbelief. The box from Wedding Paper Divas was on my doorstep within a week of my proof approval. Everything was just gorgeous. Ella Fitzgerald started crooning “Blue Skies” in my head and visions of our special day seemed to grow clearer and even more exciting. Ordering customized items such as invitations is always a bit nerve wracking because one little printing error could mean total disaster. I’m kidding, but it can seem that way when the bride is already stressed out.
When something does go wrong
…it is usually fixable. Luckily for us, when we had to change the location after we received the invitations, it wasn’t the end of the world. We ordered black labels with the new address and simply placed them over the old address. No big deal. The invitations still looked beautiful! And? It wasn’t the only snafu. The bridesmaids’ flowers wilted, my youngest forgot his shoes and poor grandma got locked in the bathroom and couldn’t get out just as the ceremony was about to begin. I can’t make this up, folks. For the record, I knew that somebody would forget their shoes. It always happens in a family with this many kids.
Happily ever after?
ABSOLUTELY! In the end, as long as everyone has a good time, nobody will even remember the minor speed bumps that happened along the way! You will look back on this day as fondly as we do, laugh about the unexpected things that make great stories and be grateful to companies like Wedding Paper Divas who help you stay sane.
Note: Wedding Paper Divas was gracious to gift me the wedding invitations and coordinating items as a thank you for writing this post. All opinions and wicked awesome dance moves are my own.
