Unexpected Road Trip Costs You Can Avoid

December 8, 2020 Rachel Ferrucci

Ah, road trips! The thought of crossing through the US on route 66 warms your heart. It’s hard to explain why, but there’s something profoundly liberating and exciting about planning a road trip. Whether you’re traveling alone, or you’re going with friends and family, spending most of your day on the road is no easy task. However, most of the issues you are going to face during your road trip aren’t unlikely to happen on the road itself. Indeed, most people worry about long journeys and tiredness. However, most drivers are familiar with the sensation of fatigue behind the steering wheel. As a result, most people remember to plan plenty of breaks to recharge their batteries. Indeed, here are some of the most surprising issues that can ruin your road trip experience:

You start the trip at the wrong location

Not all road trips begin at your doorsteps. If you’ve planned to take the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and Virginia, which passes some of the most famous Civil War sites, you probably don’t want a long journey to get to the start of the trail. If you are combining the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park to the parkway, you’ll be driving approximately 469 miles. It’s a mesmerizing journey, so, if you’re going to make the most of it, start it at the right spot. You can compare rates to ship your vehicle to Virginia, so you’re not already tired and sore when you begin your road trip. Besides, it can save you precious time!

You don’t have a schedule

The Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway – they link to each other – is a several-day road trip. While you might think you’ve got an easy plan, you still need to schedule your breaks throughout the day. What does it mean to schedule your road trip? Ultimately, you can’t leave everything to chance. You should book rooms ahead so you know you’ve got a guaranteed bed and breakfast each day. It’s always a good idea to make a note of restaurants and diners along the way so that you know when to stop and what to expect. The last thing you want is to stop at the first opportunity because you’re tired and hungry, and miss out on the nice, local restaurant that would come a few miles further!

You’re obsessed about the perfect selfie

Granted, there is no road trip without breathtaking photos. However, you’d be surprised how far people are ready to go for a Facebook or Instagram selfie. Taking unnecessary risks to capture the right photo could have dramatic consequences. Legs dangling over cliffs, slippery waterfall shots, and climbing selfies can seem like a fun idea at first. However, fire departments all around the world have to organize rescue parties for reckless people. Selfie fatalities are increasing for the sake of taking a sensational photo. The bottom line: A good Instagram shot could come at a high price. However cool that waterfall would look in the background of your photo, refrain from doing something dangerous.

Once you’ve prepared your vehicle for the road trip, you need to consider what happens when you’re not on the road. Being stranded without any place to sleep can be stressful and unpleasant. Similarly, if you’ve got limited days off, you can’t afford to spend most of them driving to the starting point of your road trip!

I didn’t realize how much poor sleep was affecting my trips… until I fixed it.

Waking up tired, adjusting to new places, different beds, time zones… it adds up fast.

Traveling with the AirMini changed that for me. It’s compact, simple, and makes it easy to stay consistent no matter where I am.

Now I actually feel like I’m experiencing my trips, not just getting through them.

Check it out at the link in my bio.

#ad No one tells you that your skin doesn’t just “age”… it changes.

Dryness, dullness, fine lines, that crepey texture… it’s not just time. It’s hormonal.

I kept layering on creams thinking I just needed something “better,” but nothing was actually addressing what was going on underneath.

M4 from @myalloy is different. It’s prescription skincare made specifically for hormonal skin, using topical estriol to help restore collagen, hydration, and elasticity right where your skin needs it.

It doesn’t enter your bloodstream. It works at the skin level. And honestly… it just makes sense.
