When one thinks of tools, they rarely think of a woman’s toolbox. I am a woman who loves her tools! I often shop at home improvement centers like Lowes or Home Depot to find all the necessary materials and I love to look around in the tools section to see what I should buy next. Whether you’re a tool woman or not, every woman should have a tool kit and should know how to use them.
Woman’s Toolbox Must Have’s:
- Screwdriver Set– It should include Flatheads and Philips in various sizes. Magnetic tips makes things easier!
- Hammer- I have a small one to keep in the kitchen for small jobs and a standard size in my tool box
- Wrench– An adjustable wrench will work for most home projects
- Pliers– Standard, channel-lock, needle nose and wire cutter
- Tape Measure– Go with a name brand such as Stanley Fat Max
- Razor Knife– Retractable or folding
- Level– Aluminum or wood frame level is best, try to stay away from plastic. 2 foot level will be suffice for most jobs (hanging pictures, shelves, etc.
- Drill– This is my favorite!!! The cordless drill I use all the time. I have a DeWalt but you can go with something like Ryobi 18 volt which is cost effective and has lots of accessories available
- Duct Tape– Duct Tape will become your best friend. You’ve heard the jokes about it…well it’s true. It should be called Miracle Tape because you can use it for a quick fix for everything
- Secret Weapon– This I save when all else fails and I need hubby to pitch in or take over, did you guess what my secret weapon is?? Lingerie!!!!
Get To Know You’re Tools
- Practice makes perfect. Take a pice of scrap wood and hammer some nails in, then try to pull them out with the claw side. Take the level and walk around the house and check your shelves for level and plumb.
- Ask questions to your local sales people at the hardware store, friends, neighbors, or someone in the same aisle as you
- Check classes available at your local Lowes and Home Depot
- Online Libraries– Lowes and Home Depot have online 101 posts
- Help Hubby with next project- handing him the tools and watching, you can learn a lot
- Have Fun!-

I believe the greatest tool I have in my tool bag is the battery cordless drill, I just dismantled my home and did a complete reconstruction and the power tool I used by far the most and was really useful was my cordless drill. I’m sure for each project in the house I had the battery powered cordless drill in my hand. I do believe the renovation project may have taken triple the time without my ideal tool.
