Summer Vacation Ideas
When summer hits, many families head to the typical summer destinations: beaches, tropical locations, and theme parks. But many would argue that this is completely backwards. When summer hits, you shouldn’t run off to warm locations or asphalt covered theme parks; instead, you should head north and into the places winter hits the hardest. Not only will you be avoiding the heat, you will also be avoiding many of the tourists. Her are Three Great Summer Vacation Ideas that are outside the “normal” summer trips.
Ithaca, New York
Usually frozen in the winter months, the Finger Lakes come to life as the ice thaws and the temperature warms. This area of New York State is truly stunning. You can easily lose yourself in nature while you are there, taking in Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls, and Treman State Park. These sights in particular are best to take in during the summer since their trails are often closed during the winter due to ice.
The Oregon Coast
Often overlooked in favor of California’s beaches, the coastline of Oregon State is overwhelmingly beautiful. If you are really looking to immerse yourself in the great outdoors, Tillamook is the town for you. With dozens of hiking trails to choose from, you might feel overwhelmed. However, a must-see is definitely Three Capes Scenic Loop.
Glacier National Park
Talk about avoiding the heat: this is one spot in the US outside of Alaska where you might spot snow in July. It isn’t winter cold in general, but you probably should bring a jacket. This national park offers a breathtakingly rugged landscape shaped by glaciers, some of which are still there for you to see. Make sure to take a drive along the Going-to-the-Sun Road to get a truly unforgettable experience
