Celebrating 100 years in 2023, Cantina Girlan produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, among other wines, of clear distinction. The historic producer’s terroir-focused wines are admired for their specificity and original expression of the Alto Adige region (also known as South Tyrol). Winemaker Cecilia Leoneschi joined the team in 2003. Having devoted much of her career to understanding the complexities and nuances of the sangiovese grape, Cecilia continuously works to hone the vinification and ageing techniques for this particular native variety, which is highly sensitive to climate and terrain. According to her wine philosophy, great wines are produced by an indissoluble union between passion for viticulture and an in-depth understanding of agriculture. Cecilia also believes that organic viticulture and winemaking are key to creating wines of great quality that are authentic to and harmonious with a specific location. Castiglion del Bosco’s 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese and is a deep ruby red wine with an intense and broad aroma, revealing the classic notes of the region: small red berries, black cherries, and a subtle hint of spices. On the palate, it offers complexity and depth, ending with an elegant and refreshing finish thanks to its excellent acidity. The Allegrini family has been able to preserve the Valpolicella local viticulture legacy that dates back centuries while fine tuning winemaking generation after generation. He birthed Allegrini’s focus on high-quality cru wines, purchasing and replanting the La Grola, La Poja and Palazzo della Torre vineyards.
