I was invited to LA by Sony to cover the #Ghostbusters movie and I went in it very skeptical. The first Ghostbusters became a part of our life and we often quoted lines and pretended to be them. We loved the characters and it was hard to imagine a remake. I’m definitely one of those people who complain about re-makes because it’s hard to beat an original. I already loved the actresses and actors who were in the “new” Ghostbusters but still gave a slight cringe when I heard about it.
I decided I was going to be completely open minded and give it a true go. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the actors but I guess as a fan you feel territorial over the original.
Breaking News- This is NOT a remake, it has the same premise, four people catching ghosts to save the world but the rest of the story line is new.
Sony planned an amazing 3 days for us. We toured the Sony lot along with Ghost Corps, went to a Ghostbusters early screening, and we interviewed the amazing talent, writer, producer, and director. Ivan Reitman (producer of Ghostbusters) personally showed us around GhostCorp and had us laughing with the stories of the original and the new Ghostbusters. To hear stories about Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis and how the first movie came about had my full attention. Then to hear his reasons for the 2nd movie and why he chose the talent made me excited to see it.
Let’s get on with it. IT WAS GREAT! It’s the perfect combination of the four girls with Chris Hemsworth. I was laughing out loud and may have had tears from laughing at one point. The special effects were 100 times better than the first one (of course) and it had a little scare factor like the first but it’s fit for family. No gore with just the right amount of slime! I will say that young children shouldn’t see it due to the ghosts as they can be a bit scary for them, especially in 3-D.
OK ladies, they totally played Chris Hemsworth’s sex appeal to us and you will love every minute yet you’ll also be so surprised with his character! Total eye candy and Kristen Wigg basically will have you saying, “Yep, that’s how I would be!”
The chemistry between Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones was made in comedy heaven. You’ll need to see this movie twice to hear the moments you missed from laughing.
The writers took special care to make sure the original fans could reminisce by having many cameos. The cameos helped keep the nostalgia while Kristin, Melissa, Kate, Leslie, and Chris made you a fan all over again! I believe this one will go into the comedy classic vault along side with the original.
Lastly be sure to stay through the credits!!!
Here I am as a Ghostbuster!!! Maybe I can get in the sequel!
