AHOY MATEY! Come play for #talklikeapirateday
I love to travel, to see new places, experience new things, and most of all to getaway. I started traveling at a very young age with my family but I also went on my own adventures in my backyard. Today I still get to go on backyard adventures with my princes. We’ve gone to Frozen World, we’ve seen dogawagas, and I have been deemed a pirate. Since September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day, I thought it fitting to share the best way to be a pirate and to introduce you to Pirate’s Booty.
Imagination is the most important part of this game. We usually use the swing set and we count a specific number of swings before we arrive to our destination. Once there, I ask prince what he sees and I follow his lead. I sometimes throw in a waterfall or a giant flower (Prince said because I’m a girl). The hardest part is finding the treasure…..that’s what pirates do ….find treasure and talk funny. We also make up words such as the dogawaga. The greatest thing about imagination is you can do it anywhere. We had a few rainy days and prince wanted pirate time so we turned the living room into the ocean, jump on our boat, and with swords in our hands, we were off!
I got to speak to Pirate Professor Billy Bones about how parents can use games or activities to encourage children to eat healthy. The Scurvy Professor explained how a lad needs healthy foods to keep their energy up while in the backyard playing. He also said how important it was for the lass to put down the electronics and get their imagination flowing.
Professor Billy Bones games us many ideas of including healthy foods in our pirate play. One of our favorites is:
VEGGIE VOLCANO: A tray of mini-veggies and Pirate’s Booty arranged in the shape of a volcanic isle with yer crews favorite dipping concoction hidden in a cup at the top to resemble a pool of hot lava.
Here’s a couple others that you can serve your pirate on Talk Like a Pirate Day
FRUITY VEGGIES: Serve abundant bowls of Tropical Fruit strewn with Fruit Leathers will harken back to the Days of Plunder when sailors had to eat their fruits and vegetables. Top with tasty Pirate’s Booty for a mix of sweet and salty.
Original Earl of Sandwiches Sandwich! The Earl was a real Sea Captain. Legend has it that, instead of eating a big meal in his Great Cabin below, he preferred to stay up on deck to eat while watching his crew and the weather. He ordered the normal courses of meat, salad and cheese to be combined into one, handheld item and the Sandwich was born! Kids may assemble their own Earl of Sandwich with Cheese and side of Pirate’s Booty, ham, tomato, etc., etc.
I also asked the professor for his favorite pirate joke. This one will surely make everyone laugh.
What’s a pirate’s favorite letter?
You’ll probably think R (Arrgh)
It’s P because it’s missing a leg!
We teamed up with Pirate’s Booty, a gluten-free baked rice and corn puff snack or a mac & cheese that will satisfy any pirate’s snack craving and the lass and this old sea dog will be doing some swashbuckling.

How to Eat Like a Pirate: (devised by David Engel) Buccaneers were ne’r known fer their proper table manners, indeed they were quite messy. So with yer parental captains allowance, we can let loose the ravenous, pirate within (just this once and never when grandma’s house!). Arrange the marauding kids into a circle mosh pit, this defines a huge imaginary pizza crust. Kids take turns (cuz pirates ALWAYS take turns!) stating their favorite pirate pizza ingredient and everyone “tosses” in that item onto the “crust”; it can be smelly squid, or ice cream or Pirate’s Booty Aged White Cheddar! Next the entire crew gets upon their hands and knees and on a whistle they “eat” their way towards the center of the Pirate Pizza, sitting back when full, wiping their hands on their sleeves and making a big, buccaneer burp! Now yer eatin’ like a true pirate!
Pass the Squid: A silly sea-faring version of “Hot Potato” using marine life plush toys. (squid, fish, shark, etc.)
