There’s some places that you don’t get enough

There’s some places that you don’t get enough of and @gillettecastlefriends is one of them. Built by William Gillette, this medieval castle sits high above the Connecticut River in East Haddam, CT. Gillette was famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. You can choose to take the ferry across (in your car) the river as a shortcut.
You go on hikes, find a picnic table and eat lunch, or marvel in the wonders of this beautiful place.
For those that don’t want to hike, you can follow a quick trail to the water and you’ll pass the old train tracks that seem to dangle off the cliff. Gillette was a huge fan of trains and built a track around the property of 184 acres. The original train is now back on the property and you can see it.
But let’s talk about the castle. You definitely need to take a tour which takes about an hour but you will walk through and be mesmerized. Although any time of the year is great to visit, I love the fall and holidays.
I also suggest to buy your tickets for the tour ahead of time.
