Coloring our hair can be time consuming and expensive. It can also be stressful or scary. We have all had or heard about “Coloring Gone Wrong”. Thirty years ago when I went to cosmetology school, the first hair color brand we were introduced to was Clairol. So to me Clairol is near to my heart, I not only used Clairol exclusively, but my first hair show I got to work behind the scenes with their color specialists. I learned so much that day and saw how Clairol was a trend setter. At seventeen, I was so nervous to be working with Clairol that I almost backed out. My job was to help foil in color and to rinse the color out of the models hair. What if I screwed up and didn’t foil it right or what if while rinsing, I messed up the model’s makeup. I had veterans who had been in the business for a long time and who were my role models. I’ll tell you what, I held my breath and just did it. I overcame my nerves and before I knew it, I was taking in the glory of working in a hair show. My confidence went into drive and I did a great job. It was one of the best days of my professional life!
Flash forward thirty years, Clairol has become a household name for over the counter color and helps to make everyone a professional at coloring their hair. I’m spilling secrets and may be mobbed by my friends who are stylists and want you to go to the salon.

How to color your hair at home
Shop for your Clairol Nice’n Easy color.
Prepare:
- Wear an old shirt, just in case you should get color on it.
- I like to use a towel that I don’t care about, again it case after rinsing I get color on it.
- I don’t usually wash my hair the day I’m coloring – if you do wash it, don’t scrub your scalp.
- Don’t brush your hair and rub the brush on your scalp.
- When you rub or scrub your scalp, it opens your pores and if your skin is sensitive the color can be uncomfortable
- If you’ll be rinsing in a sink, be sure to have your shampoo and conditioner ready
