Family vacations are full of laughter and memories that last forever. Apart from the few hours where you’re getting ready to travel. Those moments are full of stress as you have to deal with everyone asking a million questions at once. Mainly, you’ve got your kids nagging you to let them take different things on holiday. Back in the day, we might ask to bring our favorite stuffed animal with us. Now, kids are asking if they can bring multiple gadgets and games on vacation.
Believe it or not, but this is a tough decision to make. A stuffed toy is one thing, but gadgets and games are another. Should you let your child bring them? Let’s look at some of the talking points:
Keeps them occupied during the flight
If you’re flying, it can be helpful to have some gadgets that keep your child occupied. In truth, this works regardless of the transport method. You can keep them quiet and have a more relaxing journey when they’re glued to an iPad or a video game. So, it could be worth letting them bring it for that reason.
Takes up a lot of extra space
One concern is that these gadgets take up extra space. Imagine your child wants to bring an iPad, a Nintendo Switch, and another game. All of these things take up room in your bags, not to mention the additional chargers and wires they require. Unless you’re carrying flight bags with you, you might lack the space to keep all of these gadgets in. Therefore, you have to weigh up whether it’s worth bringing them instead of something else in your bag.
Could distract your child from the vacation
Distractions are good, but only when you’re in the middle of a long journey. Upon arriving at your destination, you don’t want your kids to be glued to their gadgets 24/7. It’s a waste of their vacation, and it will start lots of arguments. Of course, they’ll say that they won’t use it all the time, so you have to decide if you trust them!
Might get damaged
Lastly, these expensive gadgets could easily get damaged as you’re traveling around. If they’re uninsured, it could mean you lose a lot of money after one accident. However, the flip side of this is that they are safer with you than stuck at home. What if someone breaks into your house and steals all the expensive gadgets? It’s definitely worth thinking about!
Overall, it seems like there are more cons than pros. Still, the main pro is that your children won’t be agitated while flying/traveling. For me, that’s a massive win! I would say it makes sense to let your child bring one gadget with them. Make them pick one, then manage their time when using it. As soon as you land, take it away and be in control of the device. This will stop them from using it 24/7, ensuring they enjoy the vacation. It also puts the device in your hands, making it less likely it will break.
