Captain Marvel is the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and she also was the one who received the last message sent by Nick Fury in Avengers: Infinity War. This film will connect the story with this year’s Avengers: Endgame! I’m not sure if I’m so excited about this movie because it’s another Marvel or if it’s because we have a badass heroine! Either way this is a time to get your daughters into Marvel!
Captain Marvel hits theaters March 8th
Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN MARVEL is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes.
Visiting a movie set is always exciting, but when I visit a set that as something to do with The Avengers, I’m beyond excited! I got to visit the Captain Marvel set secretly and get a behind-the-scenes tour during my Avengers: Infinity War red carpet trip. The entire trip to LA was epic!
We arrived at Sony Studios and met up with Marvel’s publicist, John Pisani who gives all the latest info on the films and takes us onto the set. We also met up with Property Master Drew Petrotta who let us play with some of the props from the movie and took us through the costume trailer.
The Skrull Ship
This massive set had the Mind Fracker set up and waiting for each of us to take a photo showing the torture. We didn’t have a script so we didn’t know that we should have been upside down and no special effects so my short self could actually reach! Either way it was so fun to pretend!
As we walked through we saw some of the guys cutting out some walls so they could shot an action scene. There are also many movable walls so they can get cameras in for different angles. The building of this ship is amazing in itself. It starts with the wood framing and heavy styrofoam is used for the walls. It’s all carved, and then painted and aged. Different marks and scuffs are added to create an aged look, It’s like when you antique a piece of furniture only on a much bigger scale. They can takes 6 weeks to build just one with a total of 200 people.
I’m not even close
On Set Watching A Scene
We watched Samuel L. Jackson (Agent Fury), Brie Larson (Carol Danvers), and Reggie, Captain Marvel’s cat (Goose) film a scene. We watched through the monitors as Producer Johnathan Schwartz explained what was happening. But it was pretty cool to look beyond at the ship knowing the camera and cast were just a few feet away.
TIP: If you’re ever on a set, while they are shooting you can not make a peep. Just before the director yells action, you’ll hear a couple beeps so everyone knows ….shut up! As soon as they yell “Cut”, you hear lots of chatter and see many people adjusting props or fixing makeup. On this particular scene it was amazing how cooperative Reggie was.
At one point I was talking with Reggie’s owners/trainers. We knew we were going to be taking a photo and I offered to hold Reggie (Goose) since she just finished explaining to me how careful you need to be with movie animals. They are so well trained and let me tell you, they were nervous about me holding him. I persuaded her that I would follow all the rules and would hold him too tight, I wouldn’t kiss him, or pet him, and I would give him right back. Brie and Samuel L. Jackson finished shooting and came out smiling and happy to greet us all. We got to chat a bit before getting ready for the group photo. In our photo is Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and Reggie in my arms. this was a highlight for me since I’m a total animal person!
Director Ryan Fleck told us how a lot of this stuff (set props) is modular, and it gets used again and again. He also said how Marvel saves everything and has a warehouse in LA so they can re-use pieces later. Pieces of this jet (Quadjet)have been seen in a couple of different films. We’re using a front from one and a rear from another. The “Quadjet” they were shooting in, was the cockpit from The Avengers and the body is the back of the Quinjet is from Civil War. Remember Captain Marvel is the prequel to the other movies, set in the 90’s. You’ll also notice that Fury has both eyes.
Captain Marvel Blasters
I often play with my grandsons with large Nerf blasters and I’m a pretty good shot. When they handed us the Captain Marvel Blasters I was all set to start fighting the crime. The blasters were super cool but much lighter than they look and it makes you appreciate all the work special effects do. An epic moment for me was to hold the Tesseract!!! It’s an actual cube that lights up and of course special effects in the movie makes it glow. For real though, how many people can say they got to hold that!!!
I have to say The Rockfather and I with our Blasters look pretty bad ass!
Costumes
We walked through the costume trailer and got to the costumes for the Captain Marvel Cast. First let me say that Brie is so tiny, I wanted to grab one and put it on but I knew it wouldn’t fit one leg. Each costume had multiple duplicates and there were some that were worn and tattered for after the battles! They also keep a few of each costume for the stunt doubles.
I really wish we were able to take photos in the costume trailer! While Brie was shooting that day she happened to be wearing a Nine Inch Nails shirt and my friend Chris Vrenna was one of the original founders of the band, so I really wanted to snap a photo and send it to him. She also had on a S.H.I.E.L.D baseball hat and a leather jacket. It’s like I went back in time, I still have my leather jacket!
Captain Marvel hits theaters March 8th nationwide and this is one you won’t want to miss!
