Rayman Legends is the latest addition to the Rayman saga. To facilitate this review I received my own copy of this video game from Ubisoft . I have loved video games since I was a small child & played the first one on my family’s Atari! Like many of the gamers out there I began with 2D games similar to this when I was small & eventually graduated to the first person shooters like Halo, C.O.D., & more. So when I fired this game up I wasn’t quite sure it could keep me engaged, challenged, or interested. With that in mind here is my take!
During the intro cinematic you get the scoop on whats happening in the glade of dreams. While the heroes were sleeping the nightmares began to multiply & even develop new creatures! The glade of dreams is in trouble & it’s up to you to help the heroes save the day! It’s time to get to work!
The game allows for instant opt in/opt out allowing up to 4 players. The game is structured with a Main Gallery, 5 Main “Legends” Worlds + 1 Final Bonus World, 5 Bonus “Back to Origins” Worlds, 1 Challenge Mode (including 4 different online Challenges), 1 Adversarial Mode “Kung Foot”, & 1 “Creatures” painting, where you’ll find your collection of Creatures. Providing a total of 123 maps!
You start your adventure by playing the first map of the first world. Then each world is divided into numerous levels symbolized by a painting. The main objective is to save all the Teensies trapped in the levels and collect as many Lums as possible. Once the first map is finished you will return to the Teensies in Troubles’s Gallery. From here you can jump into different paintings to play the next levels. Each world is composed of standard maps, 1 Boss Fight and 1 Musical map.
There are 4 different online challenges to enhance your experience:
– The Daily Challenge: players have 24 hours to compete in this challenge.
– The Weekly Challenge: players have 1 week to compete in this challenge.
– The Daily Extreme Challenge: players have 24 hours to compete in this difficult challenge.
– The Weekly Extreme Challenge: players have 1 week to compete in this difficult challenge.
The beginning stages are easy enough for even the most inexperienced gamer & provide an on screen tutorial during each level to help you master basic moves necessary for successful play. The artwork is nothing short of astounding & is sure to satisfy the most creative minded gamers, not to mention that the sound effects & soundtrack are spectacular. The music levels are brilliantly orchestrated with the timing of drums & symbols to the players jumps & attacks. The 3D Boss fights are well planned and challenging as you try to figure out which direction the attack will come from.
I was pleasantly surprised with this side-scrolling platformer & it’s ability to keep me interested in the game & what the next stage will bring! Even if you are not a fan of side scrolling levels or haven’t previously been a fan of Rayman you will not be disappointed! In my opinion this game is an instant classic! So grab your own copy & see where the adventure takes you!
