Aspen is a top winter vacation destination, but is it worth the trip if you aren’t a skier? Absolutely! There is a lot more to this stunning city than just hitting the slopes. From great places to eat to excellent shopping to just taking in the beautiful views, you can have a great time in Aspen without being an avid skier. The trick is to find the perfect place to stay where you can enjoy the amenities. When I think of a ski lodge, I want a large lobby where I can sit by a fireplace sipping my wine. I also want to be able to enjoy the outdoor clean crisp air as I sit or stand by a fire pit. Of course I want the lodge to be rustic- fur, animals, and lots of wood- I need the ambiance to be inviting. I will enjoy watching the skiers!
Party Under the Stars
The Sundeck on Aspen Mountain hosts this party several times throughout the winter. Featuring live music and dancing as well as drink and dinner specials, it is a great way to enjoy your time in Aspen and take in some great views. Tickets are affordable and the event is family friendly. The highlight? Riding the Silver Queen Gondola up to the Sundeck.
Aspen Recreation Center
If skiing isn’t your thing, but you still want to enjoy a bit of winter sport, head to the Aspen Recreation Center. There, you will find a NHL sized ice skating rink perfect for enjoying the spirit of the season without taking up a new sport. Prefer to skate outdoors? Then go to Silver Circle Rink.
Aspen Art Museum
Winter is the big season for Aspen, and that means it is also the season when the Aspen Art Museum has its best exhibits. Their permanent collection also features stunning pieces representing countries and cultures from around the world.
Aspen’s West End
This historic center is the perfect place to learn more about the city or just take in some incredible architecture. You can take a walking tour, but the best way to take in the sights is in a horse-drawn carriage. It is an experience you cannot let pass you by.
Storytelling by the Campfire
Taking place at the Snowmass Mall every Wednesday, this is a fun experience for the whole family. Take in tales of the Old West while sipping hot chocolate around the fire. Then, once it is over, you can get in some great shopping
