Miracle:
an unusual or wonderful event that is believed to be caused by the power of God
a very amazing or unusual event, thing, or achievement
I sometimes ask myself, Why go see a movie that’s a true story when I know the outcome? Miracles From Heaven which is based on a true story about the Beam family and their long road and life-changing experience with daughter Annabel, gives the movie goer so much more than just the plot.
Director Patricia Riggen created a recipe using just the right amount of faith, love, and anger. Everyone seems to be focusing on how Annabel fell down the Cottonwood tree and during the hours waiting to be rescued she saw and spoke to Jesus. Annabel asked to stay with Jesus, there was no pain where she was- in heaven but she says he told her, “No, Annabel, I have plans for you on Earth that you can’t fulfill in heaven.” The real message of the movie is about having faith. It may not be faith from religion, it may be faith you receive other places. Either way, it’s positive and shows that miracles can happen.
The movie starts with us getting to know the Beams. Christy Beam tucks her three girls in and asks what they prayed for. It shows the Beams attending church, working, laughing, and functioning as a normal family. When Anna, Kylie Rogers, starts having issues, you see and feel the turmoil setting in. Kylie Rogers did an amazing job along side Jennifer Garner and she became your daughter. Your heart ached for Jennifer as she and the family went through this painful journey finding a way to cure her daughter.
Once you meet Dr Nurko, you won’t only love Elmo but you’ll understand how valuable a great doctor is. He takes you behind the scenes of a doctor’s emotions.
Martin Henderson, who played Kevin Beam, showed how a dad needed to step in to take care of the other kids while trying to work and create extra income. You can imagine your own husband needing to step in and handle girls on his own and how he would be able to complete small tasks, like their hair! Martin took the role of Kevin Beam and brought the movie to the next level.
Queen Latifah brought her charm, humor, and compassion to the screen as she entered into these strangers lives who needed her so much.
Far from a chick flick, this film will have you looking at life’s everyday miracles. It will strengthen your faith and your appreciation of what you have in front of you. It’s definitely a tear jerker, I went through a lot of tissues and don’t plan on having eye makeup on when you leave. Through all the tears, you’ll find yourself smiling and laughing as you cheer for little Anna.
Miracles From Heaven opens today March 16 and is a must see for anyone.
Disclosure: Sony Pictures flew me to Los Angeles to participate in this event, but all opinions are my own.
