I actually saw Menopause The Musical twice. The first time I was with my best friend and had a few signs of peri menopause, we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. The second time I went to Foxwoods Resort Casino and I dragged my husband who was one of the four men in the whole place. This time I was full blown in peri menopause. I thought I was going to need CPR from laughing so hard. The best part is my husband has been seeing the crap I’m going through so he was laughing pretty hard himself. I think it actually showed him my insanity is justified! At one point my husband leaned over and asked, “Are you alright?”
This hilarious musical parody staged to classic tunes from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s will have you cheering and dancing in the aisles. You’ll connect with each character as they put a funny spin on menopause in ninety minutes. Women may live in different parts of the country and have different views but when it comes to menopause we’re all in a “Sisterhood”. This is a show you should grab the girls and slot into your girl’s night out! Bring tissues, you’ll laugh so hard, you’re eyes will tear and your cheeks will hurt.
Set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer The Silent Passage! It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal! “Most women know intuitively that every other woman is experiencing hot flashes or night sweats,” says Linders. “There is always a close friend or two who can sympathize or identify with her, but when they are sitting in a theatre with hundreds of other women, all laughing and shouting ‘That’s me! That’s me on stage! They know what they are experiencing is normal. They aren’t alone or crazy. It becomes a sisterhood.”
Menopause The Musical® encourages a healthy dialogue about issues of aging and women’s health and provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness with female audiences. Recognizing the show’s great potential to engage and educate women, writer and producer, Jeanie Linders, produced two tours of Menopause The Musical® Out Loud: Breaking the Silence of Ovarian Cancer. These successful tours traveled across America and visited more than 100 different cities raising awareness and funds for local and regional ovarian cancer chapters. Menopause The Musical® also supports the Jeanie C. Linders Fund® a nonprofit organization that supports women in the areas of health, education and culture around the world.
When you go see it, please come back and tell me your favorite part. I probably couldn’t name just one but you’ll never listen to “Good Vibrations” the same again!

A few friends and I almost went to see this at Foxwoods, but we just couldn’t make it work with our schedules. Definitely next time it comes around, though…..

Growing older does not have to be scary! This is a conversation I have been having with myself for a while and I’ll be on the look out for this play when it comes to my area.
