I’m old! Well at least I am to a twenty year old. Truthfully, I love that I’ve spent over four decades celebrating life. I have learned so much from life’s challenges. I have found I can overcome and triumph with anything that’s thrown at me. The phrase “You Only Live Once” has more value. I used to look at my grandmother and think how sad it must be for her that she can’t live a fun life anymore. When she went out with friends I pictured them sitting drinking tea, talking about what flowers they would grow. I was sure when my grandparents went away on vacation, they sat in their lounge chairs all day, went to eat, and then to bed to start all over in the morning.
I couldn’t have been more wrong!
My kids are grown and out of the house. They have their own lives, their own families, and are mapping their own journeys. What is one to do when they reach “THAT” age, you know, the age when your kids are technically gone? Get Busy! Be Adventurous! That’s What!!!! I’m now a grandmother and I’m starting the prime of my life. I want to jump out of a plane, travel the world, learn new dances, scuba dive with sharks, I want to live!
This past summer my husband and I decided to go away. We wanted to do the family thing so we started in Disney with our kids and grandchildren and then we were off! We hoped in a HOT convertible Lexus IS350C, put the top down and headed south. We stopped when we reached Key West and painted the town.
After dancing with the girls at Coyote Ugly we sang karaoke and didn’t care how bad we sounded, it was about doing something we haven’t done. The next morning we were lounging on the beach with drinks in our hand and I saw someone out in the water on some kind of futuristic jet pack and thought – out loud- I want to try that!!! I strutted over and strapped on the fly board and away I went! It was scary, exciting but so exhilarating. This is a time in our life when we have to celebrate life and Live It!
