We are finally nearing the summer months. And this means that we can say goodbye to bad weather, and hello to long days of sunshine. In fact, we get to enjoy long days in the light with our family. But while there are benefits to the summer months, the hot weather can bring downfalls too. For one thing, it can put our family at higher risk of getting sunburnt. Therefore, it’s so important to make sure they have sun cream before heading out in the sunshine. It also means that our kids are less likely to get a good night’s sleep. After all, it can stay just as hot at night which means they are tossing and turning during the early hours. However, there are some ways you can control their temperature, so it doesn’t become an issue. In fact, here is how to keep the kids cool when it’s time for bedtime.
Opt for a good air conditioning system
It’s sometimes due to the temperature of the bedroom which can cause your kids to struggle to sleep during the summer months. After all, it can still feel like a heater when it’s time for your little one to hit the sheets. And then they end up struggling to get any kip. However, there are some ways you can cool down the bedroom. The main way would be via an air con system. You can get one of these installed in your home, and it will come in useful during the summer months. In fact, if you put it on for a couple of hours, it can make your home nice and breezy. And if you put it on just before bedtime, it can help to bring your kid’s bedroom down to a lower temperature. That way, they can have a cool night’s sleep even in summer. Of course, some people are put off using an air con system due to the cost. After all, it can be an extra bill which you can struggle to pay for. Therefore, make sure you get one with thermostat controls so that you can adjust it to ensure it’s not on full power all day long. And if you would rather not use A/C, you could opt for a fan to sit in your kid’s room. After all, you can put this on slow during the night to give your child some fresh air. Or you could even opt for a ceiling fan. With one of these, it will ensure your kid keeps cool when it’s time for bedtime.
Avoid heavy pajamas
It’s easy for your kid to choose to wear their cozy pajamas when it’s time for bed. After all, everyone has a go-to pair which they love to snuggle in. But to ensure your child doesn’t get too hot, you need to ensure they avoid heavy material pajamas. Otherwise, they are going to wake up in the night soaking with sweat. And then they will struggle to get back to sleep. Therefore, you should opt for light pajamas which will keep them cool during the night. In fact, a short sleeved top and shorts would be a good choice during the summer. And if they do need another layer, add a blanket to their bed. With one of these, they can easily pull it off them if they do get too hot without having to come and wake you up!
Go for a lighter duvet
It’s also a good time to look at the current bedding in your child’s sleeping quarters. After all, you don’t want bedding which is going to cause your child to overheat during the night. For one thing, you should switch to a lighter duvet. After all, you might currently have a 10.5 or a 13.5 tog on. But it might be time to go for a lighter 4.5 tog during the summer months to ensure your child doesn’t overheat. And it will keep them cool during the hot weather. Also, it might be that your kid has a comforter in bed. After all, this can make them extra cozy when it’s time to sleep. But it could be making your child too hot at night. And it can leave moms questioning what to do when their child is sleeping too warm? After all, you might not be able to remove the comforter if your child is attached to it. For one thing, reduce the sheets on the bed to keep them cool. Also, you might want to remove the duvet cover. Just use a sheet to keep them at the right temperature. And that way, they can keep cool in the night!
Open your child’s window
With the bedroom being too hot at night, you need to look at ways to bring down the temperature. That way, your kid can sleep soundly for hours on end during the summer months! One way of doing this is by opening one of your child’s windows in their bedroom. It will bring some fresh air into your child’s room. And stop the room from being like a heater during the summer months. Of course, if you are going to have the window open, you need to make sure it’s safe. For example, you might want to go for a safety latch which will ensure the window can’t be pushed any more open. This will not only stop your kid from pushing it fully open which could lead to them falling out, but it can stop intruders getting into the bedroom too! As well as this, you need to look into getting some form of insect screen. After all, bugs like mosquitos and wasps are in full force in summer. And if they get into your bedroom, it could result in your child getting bitten or stung. Therefore, get an insect screen, and it will stop them getting into your little one’s room.
And remember to keep it as clutter-free as possible. After all, the more items in the room, the warmer it will be. Therefore, reduce the items to keep it as cool as possible.
