How To Instill Confidence In Your Teen

December 30, 2020 Rachel Ferrucci

Being a teen is a challenging time in life and a stage that’s full of ups and downs. There’s pressure to be and look perfect and a lot of obstacles to work through when growing up. It’s an important time to be there and available for your child.

As a parent, it can be hard to see your teen struggling or not feeling good about themselves. The upside is that there are strategies and tips you can apply that will help instill confidence in your teen so they can thrive. Be patient because it may take some time before you observe a noticeable change in their attitude and behavior.

Encourage Them

One way to instill confidence in your teen is to encourage them to try new things and to not give up on themselves. Support them when they want to try new activities or explore new opportunities such as getting a job. Be their biggest cheerleader and let them know that you’re there for them if they have questions or need advice. Give them the chance to utilize their skills and talents so they can see for themselves that they have a lot to offer. Balance freedom with guidance to help support your teen. They’ll feel better about themselves as they begin to master new skills and see that they can overcome challenges.

Help Them with Their Insecurities

Teens are often self-conscious when it comes to their abilities and looks. It can be a hard time when other people their age are judging or making comments about them. As the parent, you can step in and try to help them with their insecurities. For instance, maybe they want to get better at a sport or maybe they have acne they want to clear up. You can practice with them in the backyard and buy them a Kid Skin Cleanser as a way to show you care and that you’re ready to help. You’ve been through it yourself and can try to assist your kids based on what worked for you as a teen and how you got through your early years.

Reward Them

Your teen may not recognize when they’re doing a great job or excelling in school and in life. Therefore, be there as the parent to reward your teen and let them know that you’re proud of them. You can reward them for getting good grades or making the sports team at school. It’s a great way to show that you’re paying attention to what they’re up to and you’re there for them.

Model Confidence Yourself

Your kids are also always watching you and want to be like you. Therefore, you can instill confidence in your teen by modeling confidence yourself. Set a good example for them by having a positive mindset and attitude and taking risks and challenges yourself. They’re going to learn based on what you do and not just on what you say. They may be watching or hear you if you’re hard on yourself so be mindful of how you act when you’re around them and in your house.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
