In the past, if we had a bad photo taken of us, it could easily be hidden away – even destroyed if you really didn’t like it – and no one would have to see it. Today things are somewhat different. Although the image itself is arguably easier to dispose of since it is likely to be digital and therefore can just be deleted from the phone or digital camera being used, the digital nature of it also means that your friends and family can share it far and wide before you even realize that you didn’t like it.
So that you can be less worried about the photos of you and not be too concerned about where they are being shared (although, of course, it’s wise to make sure they are only being uploaded to legitimate sites such as social media), here are some useful tips when it comes to having a photogenic smile.
Be Natural
This can be easier said than done for some people since they automatically get anxious when someone is snapping photos of them. However, the more natural and relaxed you can be, the happier and more attractive your smile will be.
The key to being natural in front of the camera is to smile gently. Don’t force a smile onto your face since your neck will become tense and your eyes will close up, and that’s the kind of look that can make people unhappy with their photo faces.
Stand Up Straight
There are many reasons why people don’t like their photos being taken. One of them is that when they smile, they suddenly develop a double chin. If this sounds like you when you pose for a photograph, you’re certainly not the only one. The problem is that when you smile and you’re slouched over, you are contracting your neck, and thus the double chin issue.
If you ensure you always stand up as straight as possible (while still being natural, of course), you will extend your neck much more, and when you smile, it shouldn’t cause this problem that you dislike so much. Try it, and you’ll see how much better the photo looks; you’re sure to want to share these lovely pictures on social media once you have this tip mastered.
Practice
As with many things in life, some people are simply naturals at being photogenic, and others have to work on it. Just because you’re not happy with your smile right now, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make it better.
Practice each day in front of the mirror until you find the smile you like best. After this, you’ll be able to use it in any photo and always be happy with the result.
Fix Your Teeth
Sometimes there is nothing else for it; if you genuinely hate how you look in photos, and the problem is your teeth, you may want to get them fixed. You can wear clear aligners to help straighten them or use teeth whitening kits to improve their whiteness and shine. Whatever you do, it can often be a good idea to speak to a professional about it first; they will be able to offer plenty of advice about exactly which route to go down. And remember, only ever make changes to your appearance if it’s what you want to do; don’t do it if you’re being told to by someone else.
