You may still be experiencing hot weather where you are but fall is just around the corner. The kids will be heading back to school any time now and after that it’s only a matter of weeks before the leaves start to turn colors and the temperatures start dropping.
Healthy Fall Activities for Adults
I know that when some people think of fall, one of the first things they think of are the holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When I think of the holidays, I think of food and spending time with family. As much as I enjoy the delicious fall foods, it’s important to add in some healthy fall activities for adults as well as kids.
- Go Apple Picking – Grab a jacket and head to your local apple orchard. Picking apples is loads of fun and climbing up and down the ladder is an excellent way to burn off that piece of apple pie.
- Wander Through a Corn Maze – In my town, farmers cut a maze out of their corn fields after harvest time. People come from miles around to start at one end of the maze and try to find their way out. Bring the kids along and you can both get some time walking.
- Go Leaf Peeping – Take a walk through the woods and see how many different fall leaves you can identify. If you don’t live near the woods, head to a local park and do your leaf identification there.
- Rake the Leaves – Of course, identifying the fall leaves is much more fun but did you know that you can burn 245 calories in just 45 minutes of leaf raking?
- Play Ball! – If your children are old enough, arrange a game of flag football in the backyard. If not, try just tossing the ball back and forth instead.
- Go for a Hike – Pack a healthy lunch and head out for a hike on a local trail. The scenery in our area is just gorgeous, and a walk in the fall is the perfect way to admire it.
No matter what type of activities you enjoy, choose a few healthy fall activities this year while you’re planning out your holiday menus.
