Sausage and peppers is a common dish we Italians make for any every get together. It’s pretty simple and it’s absolutely delicious. Normally we’re at the stove for at least an hour, cutting and frying everything.
Once the weather warms up, everything should be cooked on the grill! The grill makes everything taste better, or maybe it’s being out in the fresh air. Whatever the case, we say throw it on the grill! Here’s Grilling Italian Style- A Sausage and Pepper Sub
What you need:
2 lbs sausage (either sweet Italian or hot Italian) * If you live in the south this may be in the frozen section
4 lbs green peppers- cleaned and sliced (about ¾” slices)
1 lg onion – sliced
loaf of Italian bread or hard rolls
Place sheet of aluminum foil on grill, fold up sides a bit to make a shallow pan.
Coat bottom with olive oil
Add peppers and onions
Sprinkle with salt, pepper
Peppers will take about 20-25 mins on grill
Stir them often and keep grill closed
Cook sausage directly on the grill *depending how thick the sausage is will depend when you start. Sausage needs to be cooked thoroughly!
When everything is almost cooked, slice open hard roll, Italian bread, or sub roll and warm on grill for a minute.
Add sausage and top with peppers and onions!
Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and Enjoy!
