When I first met my wife we were pretty young (at least compared to now) & her mother is one of those extreme traditionalists! There is a tradition for everything from holidays to weekdays! If there isn’t a tradition for what’s going on yet, give her a minute & a new one is born! However it’s not as bad as you think. Shortly after we met my wife’s family made me part of their traditions (whether I wanted to participate or not!) Every year as I understand it since my wife was a little girl they always do an Easter Egg hunt. They will stuff dozens of plastic eggs with coins and one golden egg with a special surprise! Sometimes it would be as much as a hundred dollar bill (Super Easter Score)! However when I started dating my wife I was 21 and thought I was way too old for Easter Egg Hunts! But after they went through all the trouble of stuffing the eggs and making my own special golden egg I just couldn’t say no! So we went out in the yard and started hunting!
It turns out no matter how old you are an Easter Egg hunt is fun & now that we have kids my mother-in-law gives us a pass on the tradition (even though she made me hunt eggs into my late twenties) & they do a full blown hunt with the kids, their friends, cousins and neighbors! It’s a blast and the kids have a great time. Although if you know my Mother-In-Law you know over the top is the norm. The hunt consists of about 15-30 kids, around 15 lbs of candy & the most recent hunt consisted of about 40 separate toys! The toys ranged from airplanes & cars to fingernail polish & hair bows! The kids loved it but possibly not as much as we did! After all you have to love a family tradition! So get out there & make your own traditions!
