Expanding Your Toolbox: 3 Real Ways To Cope With Stress

June 24, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

Whether it’s the challenges of divorce threatening to overwhelm you, or daily stress in your life, learning to manage it is about having the right tools in your toolbox. So many people do not know how to deal with stressful situations, but what does it really take to make sure that you can cope with whatever is thrown at you?

Change Your Expectations of the Situation

If you are going through a divorce, you may think that you’ve lost control of everything, and one of the common issues in a legal sense is that constant bickering over little things because the person is trying to regain some form of control over the situation. But if you consult any specialist like the Spodek Law Group and they will tell you the key to a healthy divorce is about both sides altering their expectations. This is where compromise can be reached, and closure can begin.

Understanding Your Level of Exposure to Stress

If you want to get over a fear, a small dose of what you fear can desensitize you to it. One of the best ways to recognize a stressful situation and what it does to you is to expose yourself to it. This is never easy, but the important thing is to slowly expose yourself to it. You should never attempt to if you are petrified of heights. You’ve got to start smaller. The problem is that most people do not ever make that first step. When you can increase your dosage, they may come to a point where you realize that you are fed up with being stressed so you switch something on in your brain that will change you forever. But you cannot do this until you expose yourself in the right ways.

Adding to Your Toolbox

One of the best ways to counteract any feelings of stress is through the acronym Beat The Stress Foolish Padawan. Which stands for Breathe, Talk, Focus, and Posture. Each component can work to improve your ability to function under stress. Breathe means box breathing, talk means positive self-talk, see is to visualize the outcome to a situation you are in, focus allows you to remain calm under pressure, and posture is an amazing way to improve your confidence. It has been shown that someone who is more confident is able to improve their confidence by 30%.

With any one of these little tools, you can make a massive difference in calming your stress, but when they all work together, they can be absolutely invaluable to dealing with high-stress situations and environments. As you can see, stress is not always easy, but if you become aware of your own reactions to stress, it becomes a far better way to add to your toolbox. Exposing yourself, learning to calm yourself down, changing your expectations, and realizing that stress is something that doesn’t have to be a part of your life is an amazing set of approaches that can help you make a significant difference to your outlook and your quality of life.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
