If you can drive, chances are that you’re relying on your car just that little bit too much. As soon as we are able to get behind a wheel and cart ourselves from destination to destination, we seem to forget how we were able to go places without it. A quick dash to the shops sees us searching for our keys to make the journey, and if we have arranged to go on a walk with a friend, we are more inclined to drive there than get a head start with the steps – even if they only live around the corner. Driving doesn’t have to be the only way. There are plenty more eco-friendly, healthier and cheaper ways for you to get about without having to get behind the wheel of your car.
Walking
You know those things that The Little Mermaid gave up her voice to have? We need to utilize them more. Not only is walking extremely good for your health (you only need to invest in a Fitbit to show you the benefits), but you’re also helping the environment by cutting out on the emissions your vehicle is making. You may find that you start to feel a lot better within yourself the more that you walk about. Set yourself simple challenges each day, like walking to the end of the street and back, and see how much you take in. There’s so much to look at outside without having to sit behind a windscreen and seeing it go past at super fast speed!
Biking
If you have a bike available to ride, then ride it! You’ll find that you get from A to B a lot quicker than you had thought, and the work out that it provides is amazing for burning calories. There is also the option of having a snoop on The Electric Rider to see what electric bicycles they have to offer if you want to switch it up a bit and take a break from cycling. These powered bikes can offer relief when it’s all getting a bit too much to cycle yourself.
Scooting
They are not just for kids – promise! More and more people are investing in scooters to get them places, especially those who are needing to nip around a city in quick time. If you’re a parent, they’re also extremely handy for doing the school run with – your child can scoot on the way there and you’ve got a quick and fun way of getting yourself back home.
Public Transport
Buses, trains and trams are all great ways of getting out and about, especially nowadays; links between cities, towns and villages have all been extended to get more and more people utilizing these services. Although you’re still traveling in a vehicle, it’s one that is doing good for your carbon footprint. You’ll save on fuel, parking costs and probably still be able to get a great walk out of it when you get off to finally reach your destination.
