Every single parent wants to ensure that their child gets a healthy diet that provides them with all the nutrition they need to grow up big and strong. However, there are often many conflicting stories in newspapers and other media about the nutritional value of certain foods. Because of this, there are quite a few different myths floating around about kids’ food. Are you currently confused about what you should be feeding your kids? Hopefully, this blog post will bust a few of those myths for you!
Myth: Kids Need Lots Of Milk For Their Bones To Grow Strong
It is true that milk has lots of calcium in it which the bones use to help grow and develop. However, that doesn’t mean you should only give your kids drink to milk! In actual fact, leafy greens such as kale and spinach are much better sources of calcium when you compare them to milk gram to gram. What’s more, as well as being high in calcium, these leafy greens are also great sources of other important vitamins and minerals. So, eating plenty of spinach and kale can really help your kids and their bones become strong and healthy!
Myth: Kids Shouldn’t Eat Soy Products
For some reason, there has been a myth going around for a few years now that children shouldn’t eat soy products. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! As a matter of fact, soy foods are listed on the WIC program list of approved food for kids. Plus, there have been some studies that suggest girls who eat soy during their childhood grow up with a lower risk of breast cancer.
Myth: You Need To Hide Vegetables In Your Kids’ Food
Many parents will have picky eaters. And, if you read other blog posts about how you can coax picky eaters to eat more ingredients, you might have heard one trick which is to hide veggies in food. For example, one hack tells parents to grate vegetables to mix them into bolognese sauce. Instead, you should show off all of the delicious vegetables that are in their meals. That way, they will learn to like them and will be able to learn about why each veg is so healthy.
Myth: Kids Need To Be Frequent Snackers
This is another myth that people often say about children, but I’m not sure where it has originated from. There seems to be no science to back the claim up! Sure, children need some snacks, and it is perfectly fine to reward them with the odd chocolate bar now and then. But don’t overdo it! Otherwise, it will lead to obesity and other health problems. Your children should have the same eating habits as you. If you aren’t snacking, then there is no reason for them to snack.
As you can see, not everything you read about kids’ food turns out to be true. Hopefully, reading this blog post has helped you to find out the truth about a few common myths!
