One of the most exciting things to do is travel and seeing the world is on the bucket list for most people. There are a few places that are popular for tourists due to their beautiful landmarks and Italy – Rome, especially – is one of those places. With countless things to do in Rome, you’ll be soaking up culture in no time at all. Just a hop on a flight away, Rome is the city of love and as it is absolutely dripping in history, you can rest assured that if you take the kids along with you they will be learning so much more than they think!
Are you interested in religion? How about fine art and history? Rome is the place to go for history buffs and you can do so much better than looking at an online art gallery website when you can look at real, historical art up front with The Colosseum. While it is a monument in Rome, it’s a piece of art itself! There are countless museums and galleries across the city but the real art pieces are in the monuments and The Colosseum is considered as the largest amphitheater in Italy.
If you’re a lover of religion, but in the historical sense rather than the praying sense, you will be in awe of St Peter’s Basilica. The centre of the Catholic world, you can look over the city from the top of the building by climbing up the seemingly never ending stairways. The interiors are awe-inspiring and can really take your breath away. There is true beauty in the city’s history and finding it in the interiors of the Basilica or the Colosseum can make you feel like you’re staring back in time.
Inside Vatican City, you can immerse yourself in culture by looking at relics that enrapture the world. The Sistine Chapel is right up there on the list of places you should be visiting as the ceiling paintings are done by Michelangelo. Some of the most iconic sculptures are held in the Vatican museums including Renaissance art and Egyptian mummies. It’s a smorgasbord of history and anyone looking to soak that up will be right at home here.
Catch a bite to eat at the Campo de’ Fiori while you’re hunting down all the best monuments to look at. It’s one of the most famous market places in the city and you can buy fruit, vegetables, fish and flowers and you can enjoy a truly Italian atmosphere here. The local wineries and lively pubs open late into the night and give you something to do when all you want to do is look at the people, the square and take a walk into authenticity.
Visiting Rome brings you so much more than just history, art and religion. Great food, wonderful people and a language you could fall on your knees to listen to, Rome is a city of adventure. Chuck a coin in the Trevi Fountain while you visit and see whether you return. We know you will.
