Every year we have our annual Easter egg hunt. We invite all the children of family, friends, and friends of friends. The more the merrier. Our kids are grown so we get to keep our tradition alive by sharing with others.
I also make Easter baskets and donate them to shelters. We picked Life haven in New Haven, CT. They had 18 children and we were determined to get all 18 baskets filled!! This year I thought it would fun to let the kids create the baskets after they hunt. I asked everyone to bring a bag of candy and this would go to the shelter baskets. I would provide the rest! The children would learn to give back to other children who were less fortunate, we were helping the Easter Bunny out!
The egg hunt was scheduled the week before Easter, of course it rained and we had to post-pone it. This didn’t stop everyone to contributing to the baskets. They sent their bags of candy because there was no way these kids weren’t getting a basket for Easter.
I put the word out on Twitter and Facebook, if any brands or companies wanted to donate, we’d be happy to accept! Let me just say there were a few brands that went above and beyond and I need to give them huge props.
- ConAgraFoods– When I contacted them and told them it was for a homeless shelter, they stepped up big. I received coupons to receive a free- Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Kids Cuisine, Healthy Choice, Marie Callenders, and Chef Boyardee. There were even extra that I was able to leave with the shelter. All 18 children will enjoy these yummy meals! A side note- If you buy these products, check out how you can give a child a free meal too by clicking here !

- Gummy Vitamins for kids and adults gave huge boxes of gummy vitamins for each child and gave some for all the moms too!! There were a few extra so we also left those with the shelter for any other children coming in! What a great idea to keep these children healthy. I love the whole concept of gummy vitamins, wow have things come a long way since my kids were little.

- Farmington Village Dental in Farmington, CT gave all the children packets with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. What a great idea for after they eat all that candy!!! They don’t have a Facebook page to like, but if you’re in the Farmington area and in the need of a dentist, I’d say to check them out!
- Hershey’s also delivered a big box of caramel filled Cadbury eggs. It was hard to not eat them as I did one for them, one for me! I used self control and the children got to have all their caramel filled eggs from Hershey’s!
