We, as humans want to help others. It’s in our DNA and if you’re a mom you usually will want those humans you help to be children. We look at our kids and feel so blessed that we’re able to provide for them. Maybe we don’t or can’t buy them designer clothes, cars, or luxury jewelry but we’re no Kris Jenner and that’s ok! Our kids have enough toys and clothes to fill a store. Maybe when you clean out the toys and clothes you donate them to help others. Kids do need those items but they also need food such as snacks and they need people in their lives who show and teach while setting an example.
We all have good thoughts and ideas but life is busy. You are going one hundred miles per hour to get your own kids fed, bathed, and clothed. You work all day or have other tasks that eat every minute of your day. There’s certain times of year that you make sure to round of the kids and show them that giving back is the right thing to do.
I’d like to introduce you to Champions For Kids
Champions For Kids is a program that allows people like us to give back to the children in our community. It doesn’t require any extra time out of our busy schedule and you can feel confident that you are making a difference in a child’s life. You are in charge of what and how much you donate.
Here’s how it works:
Champions for Kids launches Snacks for Students Program in Walmart School districts
- Champions for Kids, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Emerald and Kettle Chips have joined forces to make it simple for communities to donate basic resources for students.
- Shoppers purchase and donate items children need.
- February 16 to March 2, you can donate snacks and breakfast items at more than 3,600 participating Walmart stores.
- All donations made in-store via placing them inside designated donation bins will stay in the local community.
- The items are distributed through school districts or youth-based organizations.
- In addition, Champions for Kids, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Emerald and Kettle Chips will provide 13 awards, totaling $45,000, to school districts and participating youth-based organizations based on the total number of donated items collected in each store.
I choose two youth-based organizations
Boxing in Faith Gym, 134 Grand Ave. New Haven, Connecticut 06513
Luis and Marilyn Rosa, owners of Boxing In Faith, both believe that talking about the problem isn’t going to fix it, but they have put their hands to the plow to help find the solution to all the negative attention our youth get. They believe, if their facility is keeping the youth out of the streets for any period of time, they are not only doing but also finding a solution in hopefully preventing teen youth violence and crime. Their kids (young and old) all know that coach (Luis) and Marilyn will always try to help them and not judge them.
Farnam Neighborhood House, 162 Fillmore Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06513
Located in the heart of Fair Haven, Farnam Neighborhood House is New Haven’s oldest neighborhood center, best known today for its preschool,before- and afterschool care, teen leadership, Biddy Basketball and summer Camp Farnam programs.
