I love pictures, I love to take them, look at them, comment on them and surround myself with them. Pictures help us remember so many moments of our lives; the good, the bad and the wonderful. Pictures help us see how much our families have changed, how much we have changed.
I am always that crazy person with the camera in her hand or my phone taking a gazillion pictures. I’m also that crazy one that posts a million pictures on Instagram and Facebook! Yep, that’s me.
As a Mom of 3 beautiful (yes, I’m bias) children I know how important it is to capture the moment. I love candids, but I also love professional pictures. We have a photographer we have been using for about 4 years now, www.BabySkyPhotography.com. Cara Souza, is amazing. She knows how to engage the boys and work with a little one at the same time. She knows how to show off their personalities!
When choosing a professional photographer I recommend considering a few things-
- Can you be at ease and relax around the photographer?
- Can you talk to the photographer, does he or she compliment your families personality?
- What do you want to do with your pictures, do you want to order from the photographer or do you want to receive a CD with all the pictures to do what you want with them?
Communicate!
Communicating ahead of time what you want out of your session will make it a fun, relaxing time for you and whomever else may be involved! Capturing a beautiful time for you and your family!
Candids are another fantastic way to capture moments! I LOVE candid pictures! They can bring out so many emotions and memories! They are so much fun to go back through years later with the family! I just always have a camera close at hand to capture whatever moments I can! (And of course post them to show off) When taking your candid pictures, don’t be afraid to take lots, it gives you more to chose from! Move around to get different angles if you can. Don’t be afraid to take the goofy self-portraits. Ask a stranger to take a picture so you can be in them too! Just click, click, click. Imagine the stories you will be able to share with your family as you all get older; the stories that you can pass down through the family with a single picture!
Get them developed! I am notorious for taking a gazillion pictures and never getting them developed, but I have learned to shop the internet. Snapfish and Shutterfly constantly offer free 4×6 prints or huge discounts on photo books! Enjoy those pictures, enjoy remembering those moments!

Great advice!!!! So well written too! Don’t we all have those memory cards floating around in a drawer somewhere! I was just thinking about getting family pictures done for that very reason! Ha
