In summer, we tend to find ourselves wearing warm and vibrant colours that make us feel happy and alive. In winter, however, we tend to wear more neutral and dark colours. In some ways, this might be a subconscious response to remain in alignment with the seasons, but there’s no rule that says you should be as dull and dreary as the grey skies and dark nights associated with winter.
Maybe it’s time to change your dreary winter outfits and add some brightness and panaz during these cold, long winter days? You don’t have to be like Jason and his technicolour dreamcoat but a little injection of colour will bring your look back to life and will uplift your spirit; whether it’s a vibrant blue coat, a neon pink bag, or a dazzling purple scarf – injecting some colour into your outfit will make it way more exciting.
Don’t be afraid to play around with colors in your winter wardrobe. When winter comes to mind, many of us think of warm, fluffy clothes such as fuzzy scarves and wooly hats that have a tendency to come from a monochromatic palette – but injecting some vibrant reds or vivid purples into your winter outfit can really make it pop. Another consideration is jewelry; such as a princess ring or some colorful earrings can really help brighten up your outfit in a subtle yet noticeable way. The point is, just because it’s cold and grey outside, it doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to reflect the same.
Here are a few ways to inject some warmth and colour into your winter wardrobe:
BRIGHT SCARF
Wearing a statement scarf is a great way to demonstrate your fun and vibrant personality without it being too in your face. You can opt for a flash of colour, by keeping your scarf tucked into your coat, or you can wear it loud and proud draped over the front of your body. The best part of this statement piece is that, depending on the material you choose, it will not only cheer up your black coat during the dreary days of winter… but when the weather warms up, it can be an ideal wrap to use on the plane or even at the beach.
COAT
There are few fashion pieces that provide such impressive return on investments than your winter coat, as this will go with you everywhere you go, throughout winter – and potentially could remain with you for many years ahead. It’s tempting to remain with the timeless classic black and add a dash of colour with a vibrant scarf… but if you were to consider something a little more vibrant, it will guarantee that no matter where you go, you’ll always be seen to be in high spirits. That said, be careful which colour you choose if you do opt for something more bright, as there’s a huge risk of clashing – or at least being severely restricted with what you can wear with your colourful coat.
LIPSTICK
There is something about summer that makes us think of bright shades of lipstick, yet in winter, dark and warm colours prevail. However, there’s nothing wrong with keeping true to your summer style and brightening up your winter look with the same lipstick you would choose in summer.
Linda A Kinsman says
I love the idea of using key pieces like a coat to brighten your overall look and mood in winter. I adore using lipstick to add a pop of color to my face. I figure if my cheeks are going to be rosy from the cold, my lips can be too.
