The Best Beaches In New England

May 10, 2021 Shari VH

Our favorite time of year is approaching – BEACH TIME! The reviews are in and we have found the best beaches in New England. Is there anything more relaxing than spending a day at the beach. The soft sand, sweet smell of sea water, and gentle breeze combined create an intoxicating experience that will have you craving more well after you’ve left. Miami, Florida and Santa Monica, California are well known for their exquisite beach experiences, however, there are other destinations at your disposal and we found them – the beaches in New England.

You’d be amazed at the many beautiful coastlines that can be found all along New England. From Middletown to Ogunquit, there are plenty of luscious beaches to choose from that can give you the perfect getaway from the concrete jungle you’ve been desperately craving. Here is a short list of beaches I think you should consider the next time you are thinking about spending your day off in the sun.

Mohegan Bluffs – Block Island, Rhode Island

If want you want is solitude, Mohegan Bluffs is a safe bet. Perfect for couples, you will have to take a ferry from Point Judith or New London to reach this island off in the Atlantic Ocean. Once you land, take a short cab ride to the often deserted beach where you will find breathtaking clay cliffs that make it a unique, beautiful setting.

Footbridge Beach – Ogunquit, Maine

Crossing over a plank bridge on the Ogunquit River, you will find a Footbridge Beach which is often less crowded than Ogunquit Beach nearby. With a fitting small, old wooden bridge to cross before touching the sand, this beach is a great spot to enjoy with the family or on a date. This location even has a neat little boat launch if you want to paddleboard, jet ski, kayak, or ride a small boat.

Hammonasset Beach – Madison, Connecticut

Connecticut’s largest and most popular beach is home to two miles of soft, white sand. This location has plenty to do for beachgoers, such as a stroll down the boardwalk, places to fish, and hiking trails! There is even a reptile and water life tank at the nearby Meigs Point Nature Center that is loads of fun for the whole family or couples alike!

There are loads of beaches to choose from all over the New England area, but if I had to choose which one is my favorite, these are my absolute top three choices. Feel free to look into other amazing locations that may catch your attention like Sandy Point, Great Point, and Cahoon Hollow to name a few!

Coast Guard Beach – Massachusetts

The southernmost beach managed by the Cape Cod National Seashore is frequently visited by seals. Need we go on?

Coast Guard Beach offers an amazing, beautiful shoreline perfect for beach walks, making sandcastles, laying in the sun, and much more! There are special  areas for swimming, surfing, and boogie boarding, as well.

Coast Guard Beach also has a boardwalk that’s great for bicycling, as well as, public restrooms and lifeguard stations.

Do you have a favorite beach that you consider one of the best beaches in the New England area that we need to add to the list? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think about our list and where else we need to visit.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
