Baby GaGa! Your Essential Guide To Childcare Items

January 20, 2017 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

Raising kids is hard. It’s wonderful too, don’t get me wrong. But is also really tough at times. It is things like the lack of sleep Or all the energy you need to carry everything and the kitchen sink around that can really get to you. Plus all the little stresses and strains of everyday life that are an amplified when a little one comes along can be a lot to deal with. You really don’t want to be caught being unprepared. But you can somewhat lessen your burden by getting the right things to enable you to care for your child properly. Read on to find out what they are.

Crib

One of the first things to get sorted when you know you’re going to have a baby is where they will sleep. For this purpose, most folks choose a crib. There are thousand on different ones of the market, though, so you will have to put some thought into what sort will be the best for you and your baby.

For example, you can get wooden old fashioned style cots, with bars that drop down. Or more modern fabric ones. That are made from breathable fabric in case baby sleeps up against the side.

You can even get ones that fix to your own bed with an open side. This allows you to co-sleep without the worry of rolling over onto the baby, or Baby falling off the bed.

Stroller

Another item that is pretty high up most ‘mom to be’ list’s is getting a stroller. In fact, if you are lucky some other member of your family might even offer to help you out with the cost of this. Then all you need to do is pick one. But something that is a lot easier said than done. With so many makes and models out there to choose from it can be a little overwhelming.

You really need to not be dazzled by all of the types of offer. To do this make a list of key features that you want before you start to look. Then the one that ticks the most boxes is going to be the best buy for you.

Look out for models that can be converted from a stroller into a pram. Or, that can even have an extra seat added, in case you want to extend your family, are good value for money. You can find out more about this sort of stroller by reading this Baby Jogger City Select review.

Baby slings

But not all families want to use a stroller, and those that do, don’t necessary want to use them all of the time. That is where a baby sling comes in. These are fabrics carriers that are designed to comfortably hold Baby to their parent’s body.

The great thing about using a sling, either indoor or outdoors, is that it leaves you with both arms free. So you can get on with something else, other that just holding the baby. Babies can also respond well the physical closeness of being in a sling. Which can calm then and help them get to sleep.

There are two main types of baby carrier to consider. The first is a modern style carrier with straps and buckles that fasten around the parent’s body. The second is a cloth tie carrier that is more traditional in design.

Baby bath

Of course, something else that a new parent will need is a baby bath. Unless you just want to wash them in the sink that is! Baby baths are necessary because of two factors. The first is that they can be placed on a table or worktops. Which means mom or dad doesn’t have to bend down to wash their infant. Which can not only be difficult on the back but very tricky and not that safe.

The other thing about baby baths is that it’s a lot easier to control the temperature of the water. There is also a lot less water in them by volume, making them a bit safer than an ordinary bath. Of course, you can also get added safety features like these which will prop baby up, so you have free hands with which to wash their hair.

Baby Sound Machine

Something else that is useful to have when thinking about items for childcare is a baby sound machine. These clever little technological devices generate relaxing noises. Which have been shown to help some children fall off to sleep quicker.

Some just play white noise. While others include nature sounds such as rain falling, running water or even gentle thunder to soothe baby off to sleep.

Many are designed in cute nail shape to so they make the perfect addition to baby’s nursery.

Mobile

Something else that new parents may want to consider investing in to help baby get off to sleep quicker is a decorative mobile. These are hanging decorations that are fixed about the baby’s crib. Some move under their own power while others use the wind to rotate.

The nice thing about these is that you can get them in all sort of design that will fit in with your theme for their nursery. Just like these ones. crib mobile

Changing table

All parents expect to be changing their fair share of diapers once their baby is born. But to do this, you need to make sure that you have the right resources to hand. Essential for this task are, of course, diapers, either washable or disposable, a changing mat and the obligatory baby wipes.

The type diapers that you chose to use with your children can be influenced by a number of factors. Time and convenience is one that often leads people to chose disposable diapers for their kids.

Whereas parents that are concerned about the environment often pick washable diapers. This is because less waste ends up in landfills, where it takes a long time to decompose.

The diaper issue can be a bit of a controversial one, but don’t let anyone tell you what is best for you and your family. You make the choice that suits you best, and other people can keep their opinions to themselves.

Breast pump

Another childcare item that you should probably consider investing in is a breast pump. These ingenious devices are used to extract breast milk from the mother so it can be stored and fed to the baby at a later date.

People use breast pumps for different reasons. It could be that Baby is having a little trouble feeding at the nipple. Or it could be that you want to share the night feeds, but continue on breast milk.

Just remember though if you want Baby to feed on the breast during the day, but bottle feed at night, it can be a good idea to use special bottle and teats. This is because they are designed to be more natural, so it makes Baby less likely to reject the breast.

Clothes

One of the most fun things about having a baby is that you get to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for them. Most parents wait until the know the sex of the baby before they do this. Although there are plenty of things, you can get in neutral colors such as lemon, green and white, beforehand.

You will probably also find that folks will gift you a lot of clothes, which is wonderful as it saves a loads of money. But that doesn’t mean you won’t want the pleasure of buying some of your own items as well.

Essentials to get in this area are a baby grows, a sleep sack, and muslin squares for wiping Baby’s mouth when he spits up. These can save your clothes too, so are definitely a great buy.

High chairs

Something that will also be needed, although not right away, is a high chair. High chairs are designed to support baby’s posture and provide them with a surface of which they can eat from.

They are ‘high,’ so the parent doesn’t constantly have to bend down to reach the baby. toddler in highchair

These become more important as the baby develops, especially during the time they start to eat semi-solid foods.

Some people prefecture to buy wooden high chairs like the one that you see in restaurants. Whereas other prefer the plastic ones. Primarily for their comfort, and the fact that you can keep them nice and hygienic with antibacterial spray.

Baby Walkers

Something else that you will probably want to think about in term of childcare when the baby is starting to grow is a baby walker. These are devices that baby sits in and can help them walk around.

They are great for little ones that can’t quite stand under their own steam yet but are desperate to be racing around the living room. They usually come with a comfy seat and a few fixed in toys, to keep your little one amused. Although some are available that are free standing like the is train or brick cart.

Baby walkers are a wonderful way of helping your little one to establish the connection between moving their legs, feet and motion.

Why did no one warn us that menopause would turn our bodies into a crime scene… Dryness. Pain. Sneezing roulette. UTIs showing up uninvited. And doctors smiling politely and saying, “That’s just aging.” Cool. Love that for us.

Say Hello to Silky Peach Cream 🍑 A bioidentical estriol cream that works locally to rebuild thinning tissue, restore moisture, and bring back comfort where it actually matters. Not a Band-Aid. Not a $350 prescription. Not a lube that disappears by lunchtime.

Estriol is the gentlest form of estrogen our bodies naturally make, and Silky Peach Cream puts it back exactly where menopause took it away. Over time, tissue rebuilds, moisture returns, and suddenly intimacy doesn’t feel like sandpaper and regret.

Two pumps nightly. Then maintenance. Because it took years to get this dry… it’s okay if it takes a little time to feel normal again.

I’m done whispering about menopause. I got my life back. And my peach is happy again!

I didn’t expect this to be the hardest part of getting older.

If sex hurts. If you avoid intimacy. If you dread wiping.

It’s not “just dryness.” It’s estrogen loss. And yes, it’s fixable.

Menopause doesn’t ease in quietly. It shows up hot, uncomfortable, and disruptive. And for way too long, women are told to whisper about it or accept it as “just aging.” I’m done with that.

Silky Peach Cream helped restore moisture, rebuild thinning tissue, and bring back comfort where menopause took it away. Not a quick fix. Not a Band-Aid. Just real, gradual relief that made me feel like myself again.

Two pumps. Some patience. And a lot less suffering.

Stop whispering about menopause. You deserve relief. You deserve joy. Your peach deserves to be happy again.

Get the details and try it for yourself at the link in my bio.

When I found out I needed surgery, my 1st thought wasn’t the procedure. It was the fear of being handed opioids again with no real choice. After my last surgery, opioids were the only option I had, my insurance didn’t cover the non-opioid alternatives I specifically asked for. That showed me how quickly exposure can happen. Many people don’t realize that about 1 in 10 patients who receive opioids after surgery will struggle with long-term use. That’s nearly 4 million people per year. It’s no secret that opioids can lead to addiction, & we should be much louder about the fact that there are non opioid options that can be used during surgery to manage pain afterwards.
Medicare already recognizes this & separately reimburses for FDA-approved non-opioid pain treatments, proving these options are real & available. Yet insurance barriers often make them difficult or impossible to access. Instead of making decisions about my recovery with my doctor, insurance policy made them for me. As I prepare for my next surgery, I want access to every option that reduces my exposure. I know how easily things can escalate. I’ve seen opioid use continue far longer than intended. It can tear apart families before anyone realizes what’s happening. What starts as short-term pain management after surgery becomes something no one ever expected, simply because safer options were never offered. It’s frustrating that some major insurers still haven’t expanded coverage the way Medicare has. #UnitedHealthcare is one of the companies whose restrictions make it harder to access FDA-approved non-opioid surgical pain options. Because of their size, these decisions affect millions. Surgery shouldn’t be a gateway to opioid addiction. Medicare covers these options. UnitedHealthcare & others need to do the same so patients aren’t pushed toward opioids by outdated policies. Patients & families deserve better.
