A Simple Guide To Taking Care Of The Skin Under Your Eyes

August 24, 2021 Rachel Ferrucci

Sure, it’s a small patch of skin, yet if we don’t take care of it properly, the area under our eyes can make a big difference to the way we look and feel. Of course, under-eye skin is also a very sensitive and delicate area and so must be cared for in just the right way. A topic you can read all about, in the post below.

Keep your sinuses clear

One way of keeping the skin under your eyes in peak condition is to minimize the chance it will form circles or bags! Many people find that using a neti pot can help with this.

A neti pot is a type of nasal douche that is used to clean the inside of the nose with sterilized water. The benefit of this being all the nasties like mucus, bacteria, and allergies are removed which can help keep the area under your eyes (adjacent to your sinuses), as healthy as possible.

Using a neti pot is pretty easy too, once you have got used to it. First of all, find one online that you like and once it has arrived you can fill it with a saltwater solution. This should be made of a teaspoon of salt dissolved in sterilized or distilled water. The water should be body temperature when you use it but can be heated and cooled to allow the salt to dissolve. You can also check out the video below on the neti pot technique.

Use antihistamines

The area of skin underneath our eyes is sensitive, and this means that it’s best to limit the number of potential allergens that it comes into contact with. For example, using hypoallergenic skincare, makeup, and face wash can help prevent puffiness under the eyes.

Additionally, using antihistamines can be very helpful in limiting puffiness, and dark circles, redness, and itching as well. Especially during spring and summer when there is lots of pollen in the air.

Use vitamin A

Another way to take care of the skin underneath your eyes is to use a cream with vitamin A or as its also known retinol. Retinol is one of the most popular skincare ingredients right now, and for good reason, as it’s both powerful and adept at stimulating collagen production.

Of course, collagen is the matter in our skin that helps it retain its plumpness and elasticity, which is great news for the delicate and often papery area under the eyes. Some providers like the one you will find at lilyananaturals.com even make retinol creams specifically for use on the under-eye areas. The benefit of which is that such creams achieve that important balance between efficacy, and is gentle enough to use on such a sensitive part of the body.

Wear SPF every day

Any additional damage to the delicate skin under the eye will make any issues such as bags and dark circles worse. Unfortunately, one of the most common forms of skin damage is caused by the sun, and it’s not only happening when you are on vacation either.

Everyday sun damage can cause all sorts of issues with discoloration and premature aging which means it’s vital to take steps to avoid this. One of the most straightforward ways to limit sun damage to the face is to stay in the shade wherever possible and steer clear of tanning beds. Additionally wearing UVA and UVB protection sunscreen each day can be highly helpful. You can even find foundations and moisturizers with this protection, which makes it quick as easy to ensure you are protected from the sun every day.

Keep your head above your body as you sleep

Now, there are lots of opinions on whether you should sleep with your head elevated or not. However, in particular, there are those people that believe sleeping with your head at a raised angle can help prevent fluid pooling in the face, and especially in the area under the eyes.

One way of elevating your head is to invest in an extra pillow to sleep on at night. It’s also a smart idea to use a pillowcase made from satin or silk as well as, this can help boost your overall skin health, and even be good for your hair.

Include foods with collagen in your diet

As you already know, collagen is vital for the health of your skin and to ensure it retains a youthful look. Of course, this especially applies to any areas of particular sensitivity like under the eyes and there are plenty of creams you can invest in to help with this.

However, in addition to topical creams, there are also other ways to take in more collagen. One of these is to include more of it in your diet by increasing your consumption of foods such as kale, strawberries, broccoli, and oranges. Which should help improve the tone of your skin overall and provide an extra boost for that delicate under-eye area.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
