Game Day Traditions Prep and Tips

August 29, 2015 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

This post has been brought to you by SheSpeaksUp, all traditions are my own!

bountyWe have been watching football and cheering for our team for over thirty years. We raised our children to love football and understand the game so they can debate and throw stats just as good as Michael Strahan. Over the years we have created game day traditions and have added to it as grandchildren joined. Game day doesn’t consist of just plopping in front of the TV and cheering for your team. I would like to share our game day traditions prep and tips in hopes that you can add memories to your family album.

Food

Bounty Cleanup

Sunday football means lots of food all day long. We start out making a pot of sauce in the morning, frying meatballs, and prepping the apps. We cut cheese and pepperoni, clean and prep our chicken, and get the bowls out for the chips and tortilla chips.

We cook and prepare everything ahead so I’m not in the kitchen missing the game. The buffalo chicken, chips & salsa, potato chips & dip, pepperoni, cheese & crackers are all on the table ready when everyone comes at 12:30. This will get them through the first game. When it’s the 2nd quarter of the second game is when I start the water and throw the macaroni in. At halftime I strain, sauce it, throw meatballs in a bowl and everyone helps themselves. I clean up as I go so I’m not left with a big mess at the end of the day. I keep a roll of Bounty on the counter and on the table and all are instructed that if they spill, they need to clean it up then! (Get it all here)

Attire

Tide Pods

This is just as important as food! We have the same attire each week; long sleeve Steeler shirt, Steeler Jersey, Steeler socks, and of course our terrible towels. Our tradition is NOT to wash our jerseys which means all our other clothes need to be fresh each week. Our Tide pods can power through anything we spill on us and keeps our team gear looking and smelling fresh and clean. I’m not quite sure if we’re supposed to be using Febreze on our jerseys but don’t tell anyone because I do. ***I won’t recommend this because it could cause fading or spots- if you do this, do it at your own risk***

House

Febreze

Febreze Gemma

The house needs to be set up for everyone to be comfortable and so all can see the TV. We bring in extra chairs. We have Steve The Steeler Snowman sitting in his chair (the children are NOT allowed to play with him). Our Steeler decor is out and when I can I buy Steeler plates, napkins, and cups. If I can’t find my team, all is in our teams colors of Black and Gold! The bathroom is stocked with the Charmin and a fresh can of Febreze (we are serving them buffalo wings). There are extra rolls of Bounty in the living for quick clean-ups should a spill happen!

PostGame

If you remember, I said clean as you go so postgame cleaning doesn’t take me all night. The team gear is thrown in the washer with our Tide Pods, I get any heavy dried spills with my Bounty, Go over the floor with my Swifer, and throw the dishes in the dish washer and let Cascade work its magic. Slip in my jammies and relax before bed. During the week, I had back to Walmart to stock up for the following Sunday!

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
