Fall Weekend In Philly

November 10, 2015 Rachel Ferrucci 2 Comments

The fall is a great time to go away to a northern state. If you spend a fall weekend in Philly, you not only get to crunch in the leaves as you walk down the streets but there is so much history to see. There are buildings you will be in awe with, stories that will make you feel like a wimp but yet inspire you to do something great, and food that will keep you stuffed for a week.

Where To Stay

If you are visiting a place like Philly you need to start your experience with the charming historic Penns View Hotel. You will have everything you need from complimentary breakfast, wifi, spa tubs, and a warm fireplace in your room. The customer service is impeccable, you will get to know the manager and he’ll treat you as family visiting from out of town. ** We woke to no heat and no hot water. After calling downstairs, the manager was AT our door with another key because he couldn’t get it fixed. He handed us the key after apologizing profusely and we were able to take a shower and get ready to head out and worry about switching everything later. Penns View Hotel

Places to go

Betsy Ross House

Stop by the Betsy Ross house. Tour the house and learn about about Betsy and when you get to the cellar, you’ll get to meet Betsy herself and ask her anything you want. Two questions to ask:

How did you come up with the 5 point star?
How do you make the star? Betsy Ross House

Franklin Fountain

This is a must stop. Step back into time and enjoy the feel of an old fashioned ice cream shop with all the details that would have been there when you went as a kid. The only thing that was missing was the lighter that Jimmy Stewart would light up and say, “Hot Dog!” in It’s a Wonderful Life! Plan on waiting in line but the homemade ice cream is well worth it! The Liberty Bell

To see the Liberty Bell up close was very cool. To read the stories walking up to the Liberty Bell was inspiring. It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be but I’m figuring its greatness makes it seem bigger.

Independence Hall

Would you risk the lives of your family and yourself for your freedom? Take a walk through time and learn how our forefathers gave us the freedom we have today. See the room where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were both signed. You will leave with a new love for your country and those who molded it! **Tip- You need to go to the information center and get the tickets. Independence Hall Philly

Don’t be fooled that there isn’t night life in the Old City. You will not be disappointed with food or drinks. You will stay busy on your visit and will plan on your return trip before leaving!

Where would you want to visit in Philly? Have you been?

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
