We color our hair for many reasons. We may want to cover those pesky gray hairs or maybe we like to add life to our drab natural color, or some of us like to spice it up and change the color depending on our mood. Whatever the case, we all want the same end result…… we want our color to last! I’ve been in the beauty industry for many years and I’m sure you heard me say product, product, product!! When your hair has been processed with color, it’s been through a stressful time. It needs loving care and unless you don’t mind if your color fades quick, you’ll want product(s) that helps your hair look freshly colored weeks after you’ve had it done.
What really happens when I color my hair?
When your hair is colored, the color is deposited into the hairs cuticle. If you’re not sure what your hair’s cuticle is, think of a fish. The scales on a fish resemble your hair’s cuticle. The cuticle is opened (think scales lifted) and color is deposited. The cuticle is then closed (scales lay flat) locking in the color.
Most likely your stylist advised you not to wash your hair for a specific amount of time (maybe 24-48 hours). Stylists advise this because during this time your cuticle totally closes and the color finishes oxidizing.
Stop My Color From Fading!
There are many natural elements that will fade your color. The sun may be beautiful but it isn’t a friend to color in our hair.
