Tips On How To Love The Pet and Not The Mess

May 27, 2014 Rachel Ferrucci Leave a Comment

_MC_8832We all love our pets. They give us love, make us laugh, but let’s face it, unlike children they can’t learn to clean up if they make a mess. Our puppy loves to scatter her food and chase her little stump of a tail which when done leaves a trail of hair and food all over the floor. She gets a bath often but that doesn’t take care of her “dog smell” when she lays on the carpet, sneaks on the bed, or rubs against anything.

I don’t want my house to look like there’s animals (we have two cats too) and I certainly don’t want it to smell like a zoo. It can be a lot of work taking care of animals and cleaning up after them can suck up a ton of time. Everyday I do light cleaning and save the power cleaning for once a week. Light cleaning can turn into hours if you don’t have the right tools. I recently went to the P&G Love The Pet, Not The Mess Conference in Cincinnati and we learned animal training tips from top trainer Andrea Arden and we also learned the advantages of using the new products from Febreze and Swifer. If you’re like me you already use these great brands but here are some tips about their new products!

Swifer Sweep and Trap (great price point for an everyday cleaning tool)

  • Easy to put together
  • Easy grip
  • 360 Swivel Head
  • Dirt Bin
  • Rotating Blades (which throw the debris into the bin)
  • Dry Cloth

_MC_8916The Swifer works better than a broom, lighter than a vacuum, picks up dry big and little messes, and doesn’t need a lot of space for storage. I keep mine tucked away in my kitchen corner. This is great to clean up after your pets or kids multiple times a day.

I use Febreze on everything all the time but I was amazed to learn about the allergen reducer. I have a good friend who is over often and after an hour, his eyes are tearing and red from the animals. I also have allergies from the pollen (which happens to be very high where I live) I can clean every day but between the dog and cats going outside, it’s always tracked into my house.

  • Great on hard to wash fabrics (pillows, couches, etc)
  • Reduces up to 95% of inanimate allergens from pollen, pet dander, and dust mite matter that can become airborne from fabrics
  • Eliminates odors
  • Keeps your house and everything in smelling great

Spray on couches, chairs, pillows, carpets, curtains, and anything that can hold a smell or can’t be wiped down!

Ever wonder how Febreze works? We actually met the scientists behind it and saw a live demonstration, this is when I had an Ah Ha moment. If you had a pillow and dumped a teaspoon of powder on it, rubbed it in and then smacked the pillow, the powder would be airborne and you would breathe that in. When you spray Febreze on the fabric after the powder is in it. It creates a barrier and the powder won’t go airborne. You can still vacuum your pillow, couch, or fabrics and it will suck it out. I don’t know about you but I’d like all the allergens to be in my vacuum and not in the air where I can breathe them in.

Where do you use your Swifer and Febreze? What’s your tips to make clean-up easier?

disclosure- My travel and expenses were paid to the P&G conference but all opinions are my own

I didn’t realize how much poor sleep was affecting my trips… until I fixed it.

Waking up tired, adjusting to new places, different beds, time zones… it adds up fast.

Traveling with the AirMini changed that for me. It’s compact, simple, and makes it easy to stay consistent no matter where I am.

Now I actually feel like I’m experiencing my trips, not just getting through them.

Check it out at the link in my bio.

#ad No one tells you that your skin doesn’t just “age”… it changes.

Dryness, dullness, fine lines, that crepey texture… it’s not just time. It’s hormonal.

I kept layering on creams thinking I just needed something “better,” but nothing was actually addressing what was going on underneath.

M4 from @myalloy is different. It’s prescription skincare made specifically for hormonal skin, using topical estriol to help restore collagen, hydration, and elasticity right where your skin needs it.

It doesn’t enter your bloodstream. It works at the skin level. And honestly… it just makes sense.
