The Secret to Dressing Up Shorts and Sundresses This Summer

June 11, 2026 Rachel Ferrucci

There comes a point in every summer when I stand in front of my closet, stare at a perfectly good sundress, and think, “Why does this outfit still look unfinished?”

The dress is cute. The weather is cooperating. The accessories are doing their job. Then I look down at my shoes and realize that’s where the problem starts.

For years I defaulted to flats. Safe. Comfortable. Reliable. Also about as exciting as airport food. Somewhere along the way, I realized the difference between looking like I got dressed and looking like I actually styled an outfit often came down to the shoes.

Discover the Salt of Life.

I learned this lesson the hard way during a recent trip. I packed multiple pairs of shoes because apparently I still believe I’m the kind of woman who changes footwear three times a day. By day two, I was already looking for the pair that worked with everything.

That’s when I started paying more attention to lower heels. Not the skyscraper heels that require a recovery day afterward. I’m talking about practical heels that give you a little lift, make your legs look better, and don’t leave you questioning your life choices after dinner.

The first pair that immediately felt summer-ready were the DREAM PAIRS Kitten Heels. These are the type of sandals that make a simple sundress look intentional. Suddenly the outfit that felt casual enough for a grocery run looks ready for dinner by the water.

What I love most is that they don’t try too hard. At this stage of life, I’m not interested in shoes that scream for attention. I want something stylish that quietly does its job while I take the compliments.

That same versatility showed up with the DREAM PAIRS Women’s Chunky Strappy Heels . There is something about a block heel that feels smarter as we get older. Maybe it’s because we finally accepted that stability is not a character flaw.

These are exactly the kind of shoes I’d wear with white shorts and a linen blouse while wandering through a coastal town or grabbing lunch with friends. They dress up an outfit without looking like you’re headed to a formal event.

Then there are the DREAM PAIRS 2026 Women’s Bow Heels, which bring a little personality into the mix. The bow detail manages to be feminine without crossing into little-girl territory, which is a delicate line some shoes fail spectacularly to navigate.

Paired with a flowing sundress, they create that effortless summer look we’re all trying to achieve. You know the one. The look that appears effortless but actually required a strategic amount of planning.

The pointed silhouette of the DREAM PAIRS Women’s Slingback Kitten Heels instantly elevates almost anything. Throw them on with a simple black dress and suddenly people assume you have your life together.

I won’t tell them the truth if you won’t.

The DREAM PAIRS Women’s Kitten Heels Slingback continue that theme beautifully. These are the shoes I can see reaching for over and over again because they solve a common problem. They make casual outfits feel polished without looking overdressed.

That’s the sweet spot many of us are chasing. We want to look stylish, not like we’re headed to prom.

One style that surprised me was the DREAM PAIRS Women’s Mary Jane Low Chunky Heels. The glossy finish adds a touch of sophistication while the lower heel keeps them wearable. That’s a combination I can appreciate.

There was a time when I would buy shoes based entirely on how they looked. Today, comfort gets equal billing. If a shoe hurts, it doesn’t matter how pretty it is because it’s not leaving the closet.

Finally, the DREAM PAIRS 2026 Women’s Kitten Heels remind me why simple designs often win. They slip on easily, pair with almost everything, and provide just enough height to make a difference.

The older I get, the more I realize style isn’t about having more. It’s about choosing better. A great pair of shoes can completely change how an outfit feels, whether you’re wearing shorts, a sundress, or your favorite vacation look.

And if those shoes happen to save valuable suitcase space on my next trip, that’s just an added bonus.

You’ll find a replica David in the square but going to Accademia Gallery in Florence and seeing this breathtaking statue by Michelangelo is 100% worth it, whether you like art or not. His right leg has a tree stump which balances the entire statue.
